Some of the pieces are great. I don't like how emasculated some of these look. I like my man rough, tough, hard, and manly.

Blogger ChalcedonyofSF said ... (12:16 PM) :

I love men - male men. The models look and feel less than that and I know this look will work for a variety of people and clearly (and currently) for this industry.

Of course, Vuitton's clothing pictured is wonderful to see - more opps for men to look good - thank you very much! Of the models, #3 & #5 & of the last pic: the Tux jacket are my favs.

This is not to say it would not thrill me to see individual pieces of these outfits or smaller combos of these pieces on someone who has the confidence (masculine or otherwise) to wear them. I love it when men have some consciousness about how they own their "persona" - it is even more impressive when the man is more weighted in his gender - my personal opinion, that's all.

Orange! Any man who could pull off that bright a color (love the shortened collar white shirt!) and who can look as good with no hair, always gets my vote! Nice!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:18 PM) :

Coats and scarves worn with sandals, dinner jackets worn with shorts, a safari suit made in warm fabric: when does Mr. Vuitton expect these things to be worn?

Those sandals and that scarf (as magnificent as that scarf is) do not prepare the tropical-lounge-suited young man for business nor pleasure. The sandals would be unacceptable in the office and the scarf is an unforgivable contridiction to the climate he has prepared for.

The gentleman in a dinner jacket appears to have left his detachable collar and bowtie at home, with the rest of his trousers. Perhaps his father has forced him to wear shorts to signify his rank as a school-age child. Which ever party he might have in mind, he will be forever inappropriate: too pretentious for a night in the clubs, too casual for anywhere which demands a dinner jacket.

Such a shame that such expertise is wasted on such folly. Those high tech jackets are much better adapted to their purpose of travelling between sporting arenas. The spectators have a much better understanding of clothes than their designers: that orange jumper and those casual suits are simply more aesthetic and functional than anything produced on the catwalk.

Blogger Terry V said ... (12:28 PM) :

Blogger George A. said ... (12:48 PM) :

This is actually among one of the more "masculine" collections for SS11. Anyone seen Mugler or Versace? These are polar opposites.

I'm sorry, I really dislike most of this collection. The first look is okay. Some of the other pieces are nice. Pants and shoes in the fourth photo, the jacket in the fifth photo. Overall, though, I'm not a fan of this, and you could get many similar pieces for a fraction of the cost (but of course, not the name).

The guy in the orange sweater, though -- he has it going on.

Love the red scarf and the colored necklaces. So mordern and elegant.

Anonymous PH said ... (4:51 PM) :

Hi Scott, usually I agree with your choices and adore your eye! But is there any reason in particular, why this man on the foto who is wearing an orange pullover is depicted here several times? Every time he looks quite sad or has a poker face with a rather disappointing touch. And I agree with the fact, that the most simple outfits are mostly the most stylish and elegant ones - but not so here. He leaves allways the impression of trying too hard the effortles look. Sine sprezzatura...
But I´d love to here others oppinions and don´t take mine for the only right one.

It's interesting how these catwalk looks are often not practical for most people, but are successful in conveying a sort of attitude that capture imagination and draw attention to details: the plaid muffler, the rolled up trousers with sandals. Great job in capturing the look!

I also agree with several of the other readers about the gentleman in the orange sweater - great effortless look.

I love the seventh photo. The lightweight jacket and pants, casually rolled, but impeccably tailored, are just right for this decade. The red scarf and it looks like, matching shirt, work well with the neutrals. Let's get back to basics, guys. No more of this weird stuff, OK?

I can not help but notice that the men look so unhappy, like most models do, but they picked men that look like boys, and sent then out as if their mothers have made them dress up in pretty cloths to go to an event they hate.... I think fashion is best worn on the street and in every day life and we can just skip the fashion shows all together....

The models' hair oozes casual class, whilst the jacket and shorts look gives a simple outfit an edge! Also got to respect the impeccably attired gentleman, the fit and colour combination is more than "just right."

Blogger so, dress me said ... (8:52 AM) :

a) models are secondary to the pieces they are PAID to exhibit. change your viewership from "happy" v. "unhappy" to "professional" v. "unprofessional"

b) saying these men are feminine, not feminine is like saying "that model is fat" of course everyone is entitled to their opinion, but objectifying is objectifying. these are working individuals doing their jobs, leave them alone.

c) practicality schmacticality, of course no one is going to their closets saying... "you know, that layered denim look is wonderful, i wonder how many jeans i'll need to wear to make a statement".
this is a schmorgesborg. fact is you look at it and your eyes are drawn to pick out things you like and things you don't like. if you reacted in horror to any outfit and then said, "oh, ok, i would concede to wearing that" then they've done their job.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:14 AM) :

I prefer the spectators than the runway.

Blogger lollipop4598 said ... (5:51 PM) :

I think these guys look gorgeous. I would have nothing against a guy that looked like that. Maybe not a tux with shorts, of course, but every other look is plenty manly enough for me. I like preppy guys. I really don't need or want a lumberjack.

Blogger lollipop4598 said ... (6:04 PM) :

You know, I find it kind of funny that someone had a problem with the models wearing warm and cool weather clothing together, saying it is impractical. Women wear open toed shoes and furs ALL the time, no one says boo. If a woman wore long pants a scarf and sandals no one would even NOTICE, for goshs sake. People wear things like that ALL THE TOME to BE practical. For example; you feel like wearing shorts, but its not exactly warm out, so you wear a sweater, or a jacket. I do so all the time, because weather here changes, and I can't constantly go home to put on something different. Same with long pants and sandals. Its VERY practical. Its the only way to dress in springtime if you ask me. The fact that its a male model doing it is the only reason anyone is having a problem.

I don't mind that there are so many comments before this. These set of photos are delicious. The orange jumper is worn so perfectly. Orange sets a level of elegance that almost contrasts with its brightness. Don't you just love that about these colours? It's like a women wearing a beautiful YSL yellow blouse with a long black skirt.

You capture the mood too. The photo of the two men deep in conversation made me smile. It has a genuine element to it, like they are really engaged with the fashion.

To Anonymous who posted a youtube reference to the Scarlet Pimpernel:

That is one of the best comments I;ve seen in a long time, I fully agree with you; I wish more people would be bold enough to recognize folly and pretention when it's staring them in the face. However, it was your Scarlet Pimpernel reference that really drew my attention; I find that scene (and the one with 'stintingly' that follows) an absolute classic; It's a family staple, and all things pretentious at usually discussed in terms of that scene - and that accent - at family gatherings. I must know you perhaps.

Reppin' Canada!
BUT to jump to the collection, I love how it's essentially very simple, but it's the added touch of an alligator body of a sports jacket, or a splash of colour from a cozy scarf that complete it beautifully.
A great collection.
