The dude abides. A hat cocked at a rakish angle, a jacket and tie; were the only way to walk out your front door for past generations. My dad (B.1899-D.1971) wore a suit, albeit an old one, to mow the lawn.
Commenters to your blog regularly complement the more elegantly dressed; are they indicators of a return to a more formal fashion sensibility?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:52 PM) :

That grin under the hat is a killer! Love it!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:15 PM) :

Pretty sure this was snapped very close to the time of the war. Londan endured nightly bombings. All of Europe was in great distress. Fabric, socks, shoes, hats in and of theirselves were scarce luxuries, as all went to the war effort. So to dress with such great panache with what was at hand involved enormous inventive style. Your uncle does you proud, from the jaunty slant of his hat, the casual placement of the scarf, to his rolled up pants and rolled down socks. And that rakish smile. Just Wonderful!
