Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:26 PM) :

the second gent reminds me DH Lawrence :-P

Blogger Kathleen said ... (4:35 PM) :

Oh, yes!

Blogger A Gentleman's Account said ... (4:42 PM) :

These chaps look like they have seen some action, I'd definitely ask them for advice about something outdoorsy. Good to see that even the rugged types still recognise the unbuttoned bottom button rule too!

Anonymous Eva said ... (4:44 PM) :

I love the colour combination of the second one!

Anonymous salomé said ... (4:45 PM) :

Looooooove ;D

Anonymous m.edwin said ... (4:45 PM) :

classic. these guys look like they're good at living, not just at dressing.

Blogger L said ... (4:45 PM) :

Manly men...and dressed very well at that!...Great tweed blazer.
Florence is one of my favorite cities..

Anonymous Tim said ... (4:48 PM) :

The first one looks like if Conan O'Brien was a villain from Die hard. I love the second guy's blazer.

Blogger Charlotte Minty said ... (5:01 PM) :

Love the contrast between the tailored clothes and the rugged appearance - the so-called rough diamond. Nice.

Blogger CAYA said ... (5:03 PM) :

Two examples of how I want to look when I am a bit older than today.

Blogger caribbelle said ... (5:03 PM) :

they've all got the pensive professor look down. I like these looks, its a polished everyday look.

Blogger It-Blogirls said ... (5:05 PM) :

These styles are so lovely

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:09 PM) :

first guy , intensity and depth are capturing. breathless initially and an empathy follows.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:12 PM) :

send 'em stateside...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:22 PM) :

Nicely done.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:22 PM) :

I think the dude in photo one could be better groomed, but I love the deepness of the blues he's wearing, and, though the post is called "Manly Men," the pocket square looks more like an orchid, and reminds me of Clifton Webb in "Laura": he's Zach Galifanakis crossed with Waldo Lyndecker. The guy below is PERFECT. Scorching.

Blogger peper said ... (5:30 PM) :

i think that is more manly their hair color than the outfit. very manly! but it certanly helps :)

Anonymous Helen said ... (5:49 PM) :

I think the gentleman in the top photo would look better without the tie and his shirt button open to elongate his neck, other wise both are very handsome. I like the very manly rugged look.

Blogger Sarah said ... (5:50 PM) :

Gorgeous.

Do men really dress like this? Take me where this happens.

Blogger Claire said ... (5:52 PM) :

nicely dressed without looking like that's all they think about. Love it that the second photo man's companion has a bandaged hand.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:57 PM) :

Sart, maybe you could grow a beard too...

Blogger Earlybird said ... (6:03 PM) :

I love this look on men, it brings to mind Sean Connery in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:09 PM) :

Yummy!! Thank you.

Blogger Rumour has it said ... (6:09 PM) :

I´m in love with ´bearded´ men!! :)

Blogger The Fancy Teacup said ... (6:13 PM) :

Anonymous Amy Creyer said ... (6:21 PM) :

I love me some manly men! I'm all about the lumberjack look. I especially love it when fashion men embrace their inner masculinity. I feel like so much of male fashion last decade was the ultra-skinny teenage look. Glad to see muscles are making a comeback.

Blogger b said ... (6:44 PM) :

i love MANly men, i love beards, hairy chest [within reason of course], etc etc...these men look great. the first mans beard and hair could have been a bit more tame but he looks great either way.

Anonymous Greencoat said ... (6:57 PM) :

I've always thought that a beard looks so much better on a man.

Blogger the sHopping sTylist said ... (7:41 PM) :

I really like the second!
but they are both interesting, with this stone-washed look!

the sceond one as I said is reallyyy cute, I'd like to date him....

Gentlemen of the embodiment of style and charm to))

Anonymous P8 said ... (10:01 PM) :

P.S. please ask the second dude for his number. thx.

Anonymous funkypresident.tumblr.com said ... (10:29 PM) :

What I take from this is the pocket square position and shape. It isn't the straight edge "Mad Men", but isn't too dandy either. I like it for a pulled together yet not too business-like look.

Anonymous Elisabeth - Everything's Better with Frosting said ... (10:35 PM) :

Very handsome! I'll take one of #2, please ;)

Blogger Unknown said ... (10:35 PM) :

The patch of white makes it just right.

Anonymous Michael said ... (10:36 PM) :

I love the sports coat, the second man is wearing. ;)

Blogger fashioneggpplant said ... (10:40 PM) :

another vincent van gogh look alike! :)

Anonymous Kristijonas said ... (10:40 PM) :

Now that's the kind of style I'm talking about! Gritty yet refined. Elegant yet untamed. Forget those overly manicured, politically-correct pansies - These are the kind of guys that go chop some wood out back before hitting the cocktail bar, or cook dinner for their girls that they actually killed. (Or at least that is what their beards signal).

If only I could grow a beard...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:22 PM) :

These truly are lovely men. I am curious about the injured hand in the second picture, however! Bar fight?

Blogger *Moni* said ... (12:07 AM) :

Very good lookin. Omg the first one looks exactly like a younger version of my dad!!!

http://www.PersonalMode.com

Blogger Michael Joseph Owens said ... (12:19 AM) :

Really delicious on so many levels.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:43 AM) :

The second gentleman does hirsute just right while the first one has to groom himself a bit more. That's my $0.02 worth. I'm an Asian female; perhaps the preference is cultural.....

Good diversity of shots recent, Sart. But I keep wondering if the shot of those 3 women deep in conversation at Paris posted 11 March 2011 is meant to keep ardent fans like us on our toes?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:44 AM) :

They'd both look even better in flannel & worker jeans.

Blogger Sweet Pea (formerly Alice) said ... (2:52 AM) :

OMG This post is making my life!!! It's like style porn.
I would be happy if every man dressed like this most days of the week.

the first look is a little too scruffy...the second one is pretty good...naturally cool!! xx meenal

Blogger ELLA ELVIANA said ... (5:07 AM) :

the second is the best. the first one, for me that is, almost a crime in fashion.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:08 AM) :

my goodness! real men! groomed, handsome...men with meat on their bones. enough already with the excessively slender men.

Blogger fashionxxi said ... (5:49 AM) :

Perfect men!!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:21 AM) :

Anonymous Le Chic Boutique said ... (6:21 AM) :

Hairy men! :)

http://le-chic-boutique.blogspot.com

Blogger davidikus said ... (6:34 AM) :

Erm. You make me think I should grow a beard so people stop confusing me with a 21 year old woman.

I humbly think the second man looks more manly. There is something affected in the uber-manliness of the first one, perhaps?

http://davidikus.blogspot.com/

Blogger R said ... (6:38 AM) :

Pretty cooool!!!

Anonymous Pochette said ... (6:45 AM) :

Of all the clothing I liked the pochette. It is well said ¨A suit or sports coat with an empty breast pocket is unfinished business.¨ Stanley Lewis.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:46 AM) :

Second picture is great! Love the colors. Even the beard is matching.

@Greencoat: As opposed to...on a woman?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:17 AM) :

Haha, they look like landlords gone bad:P I love it, very sexy!

Blogger beths said ... (7:24 AM) :

Maybe I hang out in academe way too much, but I feel like this look is neither new nor updated enough by just a white hanky. (I surrender?)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:24 AM) :

Scruffy is sexy.

Anonymous Vicaly said ... (7:29 AM) :

OOooo I love it! The color combination and everything! :D

Blogger Kathleen said ... (7:38 AM) :

Beautiful, especially the second man. Reminds me of my youth some thirty years ago. Boy would I have gone for this sharp dressed man. A very almost "old time" Ralph Lauren look going on here. Love it!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:52 AM) :

Looking like a cave man doesn't make one "manly." Sorry.

Anonymous IS THIS IT? models review said ... (7:56 AM) :

I prefer the second; and imo with a tie he would be simply perfect. :)

Blogger charlesmad said ... (9:08 AM) :

Perfect! It´s all about the attitude, a balance between elegance, natural movements and self-confidence. He shows the best of him without flashy garments and stridency.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:13 AM) :

Men "with a little meat on their bones" - that's just so sexy! Women with a little extra? no, we just can't have that!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:16 AM) :

i love it when a man can wear a beard not a beard wear the man...

Blogger charlesmad said ... (9:34 AM) :

I forgot to say that my comment was referred to the second pic, the man wiht the brown jacket and grey trousers. : )

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:34 AM) :

First guy needs to trim his beard. Second guy is right on.

Blogger Natalie said ... (9:45 AM) :

Hearting the beards. They are apparently the new 'it' accesory. ;)

Blogger reigs said ... (10:28 AM) :

1st guy - jacket wee bit too small. 2nd guy - just right. 2nd guy wins.

Anonymous Dana said ... (11:00 AM) :

I love a good beard. Especially the second guy. My husband sports a beard and it just adds to his rustic manliness.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:10 AM) :

I know both, they re cousins and from stylish Spain. The frist one owns MAN a mens apparel store at Madrids Claudio Coello 17 street

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:46 AM) :

Ah, FINALLY! Proper men! Please, no more skinny delicate looking creatures. Bring back the manly man. The gentleman sporting the lighter-toned jacket - tres sexy!

Blogger vcr00000 said ... (5:44 PM) :

This couple are from Madrid I think.. love shopping at their boutique in Madrid

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:44 PM) :

Manly is not a need for a hair cut. Let's remember James Bond. excellent hair and the ability to handle a fist fight. these boys are pretty but I would only but money on their ability to run... and get women.

Blogger Lisa said ... (10:03 PM) :

Heavenly, understated....definition of masculinity to me!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:57 PM) :

older guy very Van Gogh!

Blogger Unknown said ... (1:17 AM) :

The style of Italian men never gets old! So timeless!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:23 AM) :

yes! I miss the manly man especially the burly dapper type (is this logical?), a man who isn't afraid to be a man albeit a good looking one. I am getting tired of the skinny, clean shaven, metro look and it's refreshing to see some guys who are a bit disheveled in a rough around the edges sort of way. I've got a soft spot for beards, my man sports a lovely one. and yes he's a burly man.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:49 AM) :

Top dude is too shaggy and rumpled. I don't know where some commenters get 'rugged' and 'outdoorsy.'

Blogger Unknown said ... (10:49 AM) :

2nd pic is so inspiring: I want to recreate that.

Anonymous Melanieee said ... (11:51 AM) :

Always loved this look. ;)

Blogger Unknown said ... (9:17 PM) :

Is it me? Looks like guy #1 jacket is a little long.... And I LOVE it. The overly tight and short sport coat trend should go! I think a slim fit with a little below the back pocket length is fantastic!
