Blogger davidikus said ... (10:13 AM) :

Am I the only one who really objects to camel? Mind you, I have camel hair jackets, but on in camel colour. For me, camel exemplifies all that is wrong about contemporary fashion: it can be dull & uninspiring, far too fixed on what bobos, hipsters and other BCBG, 'posh' or 'aspiring' people would wear.

My grandmother used to wear camel, including camel tights, because it was 'respectable'. It's fine to look 'respectable' when you are 80+; it's really dull when 40 yo dress like 80 yo, no?

Blogger Mary Beth said ... (11:18 AM) :

Gorgeous camel never goes out of style...it doesn't hur that this woman's highlights are perfect...it looks like she just stepped out of the salon.

Anonymous sam said ... (11:19 AM) :

Okay, everyone on the camel wagon. But for the love of beauty, please get trousers that fit and flatter. I don't even want to know what all is visible through the back of this ill-fitting (but trendy-hued) pair.

Blogger Barbara said ... (11:21 AM) :

I think she looks quite boring. Too much of a colour, and her face and hair don't really stand out. And the fabric of her pants looks cheap - look at the pulling on the inner thighs and the pocket bags showing through. A belt could help but in general this isn't one of my favourites.

Blogger anthony said ... (11:26 AM) :

I think the scarf is too full for the classy lines of the outfit. It is possible that a black belt may have added balance.

Lovely - definately my colors. I wear it with light beige instead of black, though...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:52 AM) :

This truly seems an old movie picture. So chic, she exhudes confidence and a sense of uniqueness. I'm in love with this photo, one more of yours that should be framed.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:56 AM) :

While camel is the new black, this monochromatic look works with any color, even bright colors as long as its monochromatic. The scarf definitely adds to the flair, and I'm glad to see that a different color was chosen for the scarf, albeit its the quintessential black scarf. Again, any color for the scarf would have worked because the monochromatic scheme of her whole outfit acts as a neutral background. Science of color is not hard to manipulate as long as you are working with no more than two hues. But it gets more complicated and tricky as more color and patterns are added. Very CHIC!

I don't know if anyone who frequents this lovely website watches 30 rock-in fact I highly doubt it. However, I have to mention that on last nights episode Liz Lemon says that she once thought it was a good idea to wear a pair of camel trousers with a camel turtleneck, until her boss pointed out she looked like a giant condom. I am not sure if the subject of this photo is indeed wearing a turtleneck, but I suspect that she is. It just made me laugh, so I thought I would share; shows how much Alec Baldwin's character knows.

I love how each of the pieces are camel-colored, but each is just slightly different. I also love the mens-blazer look of the coat, with the lapels, the crisp shoulders, the gold buttons and the pockets. And the scarf is gorgeous with it.

I love it because it looks so classy, but effortless. It's a good look on her, because she kind of looks like that, herself. She's not made-up, and her hair is natural and parted down the middle, but her features are really delicate and refined.

I love the way she combines camel.

Anonymous Mary in Bethlehem said ... (6:44 AM) :

The camel is lovely. I agree with a previous comment. i don't know what to think about being able to see the pockets. It drives me crazy when I try on pants and the outline of the pockets shows. What is the solution when wearing lighter colored pants and skirts? It happens even with clothing that fits well.

Not sold on this. The adjacent joke on *30 Rock* this week was that a tan top and tan slacks made Liz Lemon look like a giant condom.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:56 PM) :

One remedy - take out the pockets and sew them shut. Don't know why there are pockets in women's pants anyway, especially in fitted ones. While the designers are at it, I wish they'd also remove all front zips.

What shoes did she have on though....

Anonymous Cathy said ... (8:01 AM) :

The outfit is great, particularly the scarf with it. Think the trousers should be a larger size, hate to see pocket outlines down the leg....

Anonymous Don Reid said ... (11:50 PM) :

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:09 PM) :

Poorly fitting pants ruin the lines. They look cheap and super uncomfortable, making everything else look off. I'm surprised how many find this look elegant when the pants are so awkward. This one was a surprise for the usually perfectly struck Sartorialist eye.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:15 PM) :

Her hair colour fits the scene, that's why it looks so great. Love the effortless feel.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:31 PM) :

I have sweater that looks exactly the same! And I bought for only $10 It's 100% cotton, looks good even after many washes. I hate polyster sweaters. But I bet she's cold in these pants, it's so uncomfortable when it's freezing outside and warm inside that you can't wear tights or leggings under the pants.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:01 AM) :

multiple colors are not hard to work into together. Take for example, oriental carpets have so many colors presented into it and yet they work together like magic.

Blogger jpv said ... (2:13 PM) :

i like it

Blogger 4eyeblogabout said ... (4:20 PM) :

tone on tone, nicely depicted. Thank goodness she remembers the scarf or she will just blend in. Nicely done, lass. And thanks to our Mr Satorialist for taking the shot to show us how it is done.
