Back to Seoul!

I'll be back in Seoul on January 24th!

The first half of the project is done, the second half involves my readers from Seoul!

On my return, I'll do a open casting to fill 12 spots for an ad shoot.

I will follow-up with specific details a little closer to the date.

I was very impressed by my first visit to Seoul, I can't wait to get back.

I'm Korean-American, but I've been to Seoul countless times and observed that their style is miles above America's (in general). The photos you have uploaded give such a unique view of style that I have yet to see in all my visits there. Thanks for enlightening us!

I live in Korea and would jump at any opportunity that you had to offer in the way of lending a hand, information on getting around, or merely being allowed to sit in the back and watch a shoot.

If you can think of any opportunity that would arise while you are here, I would be there!

It would be an honor to see you in action.

Cheers,
Matt

I just got to Korea yesterday, and it's exciting because I haven't tasted the Korean winter in 12 years. Now that I'm older, I see everything so differently, and that includes the fashion!

I'm really digging people's winter styles here, and I mentioned you to my mommy, when I saw a man wear these awesome jeans, that were baggy at the top but tight around his ankles, and thought it'd be something you'd be interested in. I wish I could've taken a picture.

Anyhow, I hope you find everything you're looking for in Korea. Looking forward to your updates. :)

Hi there, I'm new here, just watched your video and really enjoyed your take on people watching. I'm from a TINY place called Lancashire in the UK you probably never heard of, the distinct lack of fashion here and my love of people watching has pushed me to become a stylist and try to share my love of style with rural locations.I have 2 questions 1) My father lives and is from from Kathmandu, have you ever been there? My 2nd question I'm curious to know how you reconcile the air miles you clock up through your work? Thank-you for inspiring me. Sharon

If you didn't get a chance yet, I hope on your return you get to go to the Cheongyechong - a beautiful man-made ravine that flows straight through the city...it's romantic, beautiful, architecturally stunning, and just plain pretty ;)

I started at the entrance in Dongdaemun and made may way toward the City Hall area...but you can't miss it, a sub-street level path next to water in the middle of a city.

I'm so glad you're coming to Seoul again!! I hope you're able to catch some great style while you're here. I noticed last time you were in Gangnam, perhaps Myoung-Dong or a university area could give you a different feel for Seoul fashion. Or if you want an overload of underground shopping photo ops maybe Express Bus Terminal or Jamsil Station. Good Luck on your search!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:10 PM) :

WHAT are you exactly interested in about Seoul....?

Blogger Summer said ... (12:01 AM) :

hey Satorialist!
I've been always a big fan of your blog ;)
However, as a past Seouler, you should definitely visit Hongdae too! Fashion in Hongdae is totally different from Apgujeong or Sinsadong. It's more hip and chick style and represents more of Indie. Hongdae is also a gathering place for young generation from many regions of Korea. I looked through your post and it seemed to me that you only visited Kangnam. Kangnam is also a good place that represents Korean fashion however, with wealth. Hongdae is, I guess, cheaper than Kangnam and I'm pretty sure you will have much more fun at Hongdae.
Please don't get me wrong that I'm anti-Kangnam because I envy them.
I also live in Kangnam too but I'm just suggesting to you a better place that also shows Korean fashion as well.
I love your blog though! XD

Anonymous Kasie said ... (4:20 AM) :

so surprised you mention Seoul. I love this site and will be very proud if you could add some photos from Seoul.

I live right beside Han River near Hannam Dong.

Have a great stay here!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:38 AM) :

Besides looking at fashion in seoul,

You must go eat at Woo Rae Ok-bulgogi and cold noodle place.

you also must go eat cakes while in seoul!! soooo good. try vecchia et nuovo or just any "paris croissant"(its a name of franchise bakery but still sooo good) -eat their greentea schiffon cake!

i could go on and on and on but will stop here. haul if any further questions.

fyi..
i think many koreans tend to go with the flow when coming to dressing, hence, a little less chance to find individuality or creativity in their fashion, but over all, their fairly well dressed.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:38 AM) :

perhaps you should come to Shinsa again, there is a fashion school there and studients have sometimes good looks. i think they are very motivated to find new way of wearing clothes. Enjoy your trip!

Hello Scott,

I've been in Seoul for a month and am in love with this city! The energy, the art, the design... there is so much to see.

If you have time I recommend you check out Platoon Kunsthalle, an alternative art collective. I just wrote an article about it on my blog (check out the video). There were some really interesting stylistic choices and a really nice vibe.

Blogger sehwa choo said ... (10:19 AM) :

i almost had a heart attack when i saw your shots from seoul. ("the" sartorialist was here?!?) those were all stunning and i'm so glad you found this city of soul interesting. i hope your second visit will be a blast and a successful trip. have a safe flight back here. (you should check out hongik univ. area, samcheongdong, and apgujeongdong as well this time;)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:44 AM) :

Instead of drawing the attention of all the few "fashionistas" in the western eye in gangnam, go to the real streets, to the dongdaemoon, to the hongdae, to the "sijang" (markets in Korea). even go to the places that they (the trained fashion merchandisers/business marketers) tell you not to go. Nothing dangerous, just real unique styles and people who are not thinking about "fashion". You'll find some beautiful mix of prints and real "style", I'd say.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:11 AM) :

I absolutely agree with the previous comment. The backstreet markets provide such an unique Korean experience.

Some of the well known street markets are: NamDaeMun market, DongDaeMun market, and PyeongHwa market.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:40 PM) :

Great to have you in town, finally! I recommend Kangnam's Abgujeong/Shinsa-dong/Chongdam-dong for high-end fashionistas where many trends are created, Hongdae/Samchong-dong for a slightly more junior style.

Why don't you let us know more about your project?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:21 AM) :

It would be great to have an open casting session at night (after the work day)!~
