Blogger Caroline Meredith said ... (3:38 PM) :

Oh I love this. Pizzicheria is a typical Roman thing. It's nice to see there are shops that still use that term. Reminds me of my grandma who's one of the few that are still using it.

Ah, now this reminds me of the fabulously tender porchetta I ate in Rome.

I can recommend it to everyone. If you're in Rome, try the traditional porchetta with a glass of red wine.

You'll feel like the king of the world..

Aww this special light of Rome! This photograph reminds me that mood of the Romans you connect with - reserved friendliness..? and a similar doorstep picture of a restaurant owner I took in Rome a couple of years ago http://www.flickr.com/photos/ksushka/2216436805/

I love this post, thank you so much Scott!

Italy does have that magic in simple things, that and the light. Which makes everything look like a fairy tale. This is a perfect shot.

Blogger 82Brute said ... (7:00 PM) :

Aaaahhh! I'm mad for this shot! The crushed blacks, the texture of the wall, his goofy smile! I swear, I can barely stand to look at it for wanting to crawl into the screen. I must look away, but I can't.

Blogger Café Ciza said ... (7:04 PM) :

I love the art deco font of the sign above the doorway, so good, looks like the letters were taken from an old hotel or theater, I also like that they are slightly crooked which gives me the impression that they are in fact re-purposed.

While you're in Europe, do you think you could pass by a little village called Carquiranne in Toulon?...

I just love how your photos are the reflection of a time. I like to think that in 30 or 40 years I will tell my kids or grand-child, showing them these pictures, "see, that was the year 2010, back when I was a young lady." Just like my mother did showing me pictures of the 60s and the 70s. You really do take beautiful pictures. Thanks.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:05 AM) :

I love that you have to guess what time period this is taken from. Everything in the picture points to an older, more moral and friendly time. However, since the picture is obviously taken with a 21st century camera, the viewer has a nice shock- Do people and places like this still exist? Yes, they do!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:41 AM) :

@fashionslap, pizzicheria is not where you can buy pizza (that would be pizzeria). pizzicheria is basically a delicatessen shop.
