Pitti Uomo Recap....Bold Solids
At this recent Pitti Uomo I surprised to see so many shirts in bold solid colors. As you can see in these two examples, it can be done very well when toned down with a navy suit.
The choice of color is extremely important. Because of the shirt's boldness, if you make the wrong choice, everyone will notice. To be honest, I can't really imagine a loud purple shirt looking good on anyone.
Along those same lines, I think it would also be a mistake to try and match a boldly colored shirt with an equally bold patterned suit. We'll see how this emerging trend plays out, but let's watch this with a very cautious eye.

This definitely looks good with blue (and even pink) - but I agree about the purple.
I like the idea of a bold flash of color peeking out behind a dark suit and tie. Might be a bit too much if the gentleman takes off his suit jacket though.
LOVE, the bold color. Its amazing how many men in Florence were wearing blue blazers. Its great to see men not afraid of color. Its perfect rain or shine.

Just like you can do the same with a wacky tie... You just invert the order. I have tried it so far with a blue suit, a bright pink shirt and a dark blue tie, it looks very nice.
That is a most excellent blue. And I think that a strong purple shirt looks fabulous with a grey or taupe suit--my husband wears that look often and well.
I love this idea of bold shirts under simple solid suits....quality and craftmanship would have to be key playas!
If you play wiht patterns on patterns and colors and color upon colors...ETRO is one to look at....as they go in an eclectic direction with it.
I have always like playing with interesting hues of blue itself, like the one he has here....it reminds alot of the blue you see on painted on limestone walls of the mediteranean homes and buildings.

I love both combinations! Indeed, it's wonderful to see ITALIAN Men not afraid of color. However, if you were to ask American men to wear this same combination there would some hesitation. I rarely see this kind of classic, sartorial dressing for men here in the San Francisco bay area. One would think that with the cold weather this would be most appropriate in this region. But, alas, peeps here are rather slow to adopt such fashion sensibilities. Kudos for these two Italian gentlemen. BTW, on the second gentleman's tie (wearing the pink shirt in minute gingham pattern)is he wearing a pink-dot of a pin? If so, it adds to the allure of his color combination--subtle, yet effective.

You can get away with a boldly colored suit and equally boldly colored shirt if it's 1984 and you're on Miami Vice. That's about the only time.
They look great, I love bold colours with navy blue. I like the little pocket square in the second picture, it is not at all the colour of the shirt.
I think guys should wear more pink.

I think a bold shirt and suit can go together. Frankly, I think men's dressing is much too safe. I would welcome some risks. A deep purple men's shirt? Imagine Javier Bardem sporting that and a well-tailored suit and I think we'd be in business. Masculine man + feminine touches = very hot and very chic.

A few too many solids. Gimme some pattern!
I think his jacket is too tight through shoulders. Looks constrictive. To hell with being "in Fashion" if it means looking uncomfortable. Besides, shoulders are too narrow for size of head. (Perfect tank watch though.)

Classic jacket. Proper fit. Lovin' the patterned shirt and pocket square. Glasses; great touch.

Seems part of the trick is to keep the tie solid, dark, and simple. That way, the shirt stands out, not the suit or the tie.

Am I worng, or is the second shirt not pink, but a red and white mini gingham? That would explain the red and white bandana-like pocket square and the red rose on his tie!

I like how the red pocket kerchief on the second man matches the tiny little singular red flower on his tie. Snazzy.
I think a bold purple (in my mind closer to a bold violet) would look just as good on the man in blue as well, with that suit he's wearing. I can see it. I'd take purple over yellow or orange any day. I can't stop going back to look at the man in the blue - mesmerizing. I would love to know what the rest of the suit looks like, and his shoes!

the knit tie on the first gentlemen is what grabbed my attention (directed by the simple bright shirt).
my grandfather wore these kinds of ties and as a young girl i used to love to feel the texture. i loved going through his closet and wondering which outfits he'd worn these ties with - wondered how he must have looked wearing them. they provided me an endless fascination and endless textures to feel.

I love that color blue.
I think, even purple can go with a graphit-gray suit...If someone has a nice tan, like these two guys, bold shirt is really a good choice. If someone is pale, has to be more careful with the right tone.

Love them both--but agree with some others that purple can look great too--any colour can really, used in the right way. I don't think the beauty of colour should ever be frowned upon--each person has certain colours (and styles) that suit them more than others and it can take time to work this out.

A fellow commentator writes that he/she doesn't understand all the oohs and aahs over these classic business looks. In America at least, our eyes have become so accustomed to seeing grown men in graphic print t-shirts and backwards baseball caps, seeing a man actually dress appropriate to his age and station in life DOES give the Shock of the New. These guys are absolute head-turners because of what they DON'T wear.

I really like the bold fashion statement made with these bold colored shirts. It doesn't overpower the look or their style but seems to enhance it. I do hope to see well put together outfits like ths more often in the future.

Is the second guy wearing/pocketing a Person 2892-V in color 480 (Honey)?
I love that they're using what they put in their pockets to really spell out what they want to do with their whole look. The first one is very classic, geometric, and clear-cut. The second has a touch of still-masculine delicacy and playfullness. Also, I've been noticing men with their glasses poking out of their pockets like that, but I didn't realize those pockets were that deep! Womens pockets are so shallow, everywhere. Sometimes I get jealous.
What color shoes would go best with a blue suit like these?
I feel like Daisy in "The Great Gatsby". Both shirts are so beautiful, that I'm verklempt.
I like the scale of the lapels on both suits. Style, as opposed to fashion. Suits I'd wear, as a "man of a certain age", as opposed to those skinny, "Pee Wee Herman" suits.
I have a preference for solid navy ties, and probably own 25 or so in many different weights and textures.
Classic dressing will always look correct.
