Modern day Sherlock Holmes!

Blogger Unknown said ... (6:26 PM) :

ridiculous! while i think i'm horribly judging who this man is, i love what he's wearing. that much flannel and felt has to be rewarded. even the color scheme of the book he's holding adds to the odd english/scottish vibe. the scarf and the wellies are banging.

Blogger mondoblogo said ... (6:29 PM) :

Sherlock Bowles....

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:36 PM) :

Just want to say I love the outfit - Practically speaking though where I am from in Canada your toes would freeze like ice cubes in those rubber boots. Just not real practical winter gear.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:40 PM) :

something about this is so amazing. I think I love most that he is every inch unabashedly a character.

Blogger I V E S T I T I ! said ... (6:42 PM) :

Those splashes of colour are so good in winter, I've never seen someone wear wellies with a suit. Like the alternate scarf too......ivestiti.blogspot.com

These things are definitely going high style. I caught a pair in the Metropolitan Museum of Art that had been seriously customized.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:58 PM) :

I love that you call them wellies! How British of you.

Blogger Brigadeiro said ... (9:00 PM) :

I looked at the pic before I saw the title, and was sure this gentleman was British...or perhaps a Brit in NYC?

Anonymous Regina Joi said ... (9:13 PM) :

Brideshead Revisited! Hamish meets Beaton at Ashcombe!!!

Anonymous marc said ... (9:13 PM) :

please be serious. these type of boots are made for the countryside. trying way too hard there...

Blogger Margo said ... (9:30 PM) :

He looks like an Oxford don, but the cell phone is a funny jarring note.

Blogger Kathleen said ... (10:06 PM) :

I have a pair of Marimekko rain boots in Uniko print. Think I'll put them on tomorrow and wear them with my suit. Damn the torpedos, he's ready for anything! He could very well have shoes on underneath. I was wearing snow cleats on my boots just two weeks ago. One must do, what one must do.

Blogger sarawithoutanh said ... (10:15 PM) :

My husband and I were shopping for some all-weather boots (for him) tonight. He said that he didn't think guys could wear wellies. I just showed him this picture, and he changed his mind :)

Blogger Hunter said ... (10:21 PM) :

Where can I get a gray wool suit like that??

Blogger lintmag said ... (10:44 PM) :

Hamish - no hat or gloves in that freezing weather?? Don't get sick!

Anonymous thomas said ... (11:13 PM) :

rainboots are here to stay for gents

Blogger Haley said ... (11:13 PM) :

Reminds me sooo much of the grandfather from the movie, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. A real eccentric, great!

Anonymous W5RAn.com said ... (12:57 AM) :

he looks like a well made bed, in the layering... i particularly like the double sided scarf and i wonder what he is reading and if that book cover was made to order for the bright orange cones. so lovely.

Blogger Drea said ... (12:58 AM) :

now that is how your wear wellies! love it! xoxo

Blogger Lisa said ... (1:11 AM) :

love the look but what happens after you get to the office? do you stomp around in the wellies? Or do you change your shoes, in which case, your pants are all wrinkled . . .

Anonymous Camilla said ... (1:19 AM) :

Fantastic Beau Brummel!

Blogger San said ... (1:24 AM) :

he looks like the epitome of the british gentleman on a country trip.

Excellent shot!

Hamish! How nice is that blue? Such a rich color combination of royal blue and grey...

He must have brought those boots back from his adventure in the american wilderness of not long ago! I love them!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:21 AM) :

Sensible footwear is getting fashionable, finally.

Blogger Lou said ... (4:36 AM) :

So genteel and dandy, in an aristocratic manner. He creates his own world and moves around in eras (including our own) with ease. A traditionalist who is modern, a true aesthete. What not to admire?

Anonymous Miss B said ... (4:44 AM) :

I love it! Hamish Parker-Bowles dressed like a true English eccentric (I have a soft spot for this style - my dad and uncle are also the quintissential English academics)

Blogger davidikus said ... (7:21 AM) :

You need quite some confidence to wear this combination. Is he wearing flannel or tweed?

Blogger My So Called Life said ... (9:31 AM) :

I absolutly love this!
It is so formal with the suit yet so relaxed with the linning of the coat and the rainboots. Love it!!!

Blogger Sophisticated Misfit said ... (9:51 AM) :

The mobile and his classic garments are at odds. Ditch the mobile, sir, and join your community. Yell through an orange witch's hat, if the emergency arises. If they're not within earshot they can wait. Nothing is that important.

Blogger Tomma said ... (10:26 AM) :

He could be a character in a Harry Potter movie!

Blogger eff said ... (10:33 AM) :

I love the monochromatic platform of the tie/shirt combo...

Blogger C A said ... (10:46 AM) :

Can it be Marc Jacobs special item's rain boots??

Blogger FASHION SNAG said ... (11:29 AM) :

Wow, I love how he is wearing purple wellies with such a classy outfit. Much better than ruining your Italian shoes in the water. xo

Richard Brautigan is alive!!!

Anonymous gluttonforlife said ... (12:04 PM) :

His mustache has totally transformed him in my eyes--he became much sexier!

Blogger Ms. Bunbury said ... (2:05 PM) :

Great! He's ssso New Yorker!I have wellies in grey ice and use them with my usual working clothes (often jacket and skirt/trousers and often black) with a pair of stilettos in my bag. But in Italy people aren't so used to this. We do have wellies here. Unfortunately a lot (as everything that become a trend, we then want to have it). But we aren't ready to put them on with everything (and this is their function, their use: you put them on when it's rainy or snowy), no, we have to create a perfect look for them, as we all should be ready to leave for a weekend in some x-shire english county...

Blogger piccola samurai said ... (3:33 PM) :

I love him! Always stylish and classy! But I agree that rubber boots are not the best if it's freezing...

Blogger Dianne said ... (4:26 PM) :

I think Hamish Bowles looks like a man out of time-but in a good way-seeing him would be akin to encountering Marcel Proust on the subway...

Blogger Ash said ... (4:47 PM) :

lol Hamish Bowles's moustache makes everything so perfect.

Blogger Unknown said ... (11:18 AM) :

To the person who said rubber wellies are not warm, have they never seen a pair of lined wellies? To those who object to them because of other reasons I think it is a negative response to the class associations of these items of clothing and related resentments. Mr. Bowles is dressed very practically and elegantly, since being well and elegantly dressed also means being dressed suitably to climate and occasion. Wellies are the perfect thing for walking the snow and slush ridden streets of NYC.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:00 PM) :

loooove it. of course he couldn't do it without the hair + glasses+ mustache combo.

Blogger sofiasophie said ... (2:47 PM) :

stylish but soooo uncomfortable and...cold!
Anyway, to be stylish, no matter what you suffer....

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:56 PM) :

Totally wonderful~!

Anonymous DIego said ... (8:07 PM) :

I love the fact that he looks effortless and expensive, but I feel he tends to look like he is wearing the same thing every time he is snapped at a show. Very refreshing.

Blogger millions of cells said ... (11:24 PM) :

Ahh again one of the best. Love the wellies mixed with the otherwise classy, neutral colours (and the tie that give a dash of blue!) The stash also adds that element of seriousness and superiority.

P.S: Read some of your book today, my favorite has got to be the Asian girl in Bryant Park. You know, the one with the outlandish shoes, who got comments about her weight? I don't understand what her weight has to do wit her interesting and not generic style. Anyways, just letting you know : )

Blogger KoKoschKa said ... (2:13 PM) :

I got tired of ruining my shoes last winter and decided to wear wellies with my suits. It took a couple of months to find ones that were to my liking but I'm happy with the result!

Blogger Nathalie & Benita said ... (6:37 PM) :

Hamish looking extravagant as always.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:19 AM) :

there's a fine line between classic fashion and costume, a line which seems very blurred to hamish bowles

Anonymous Miranda said ... (12:25 PM) :

Hamish Bowles + Purple Wellies = Me happy.

Blogger Heavycats said ... (2:05 PM) :

he's always glam!!!!

Blogger Beth said ... (3:54 PM) :

Blogger solastseason said ... (5:32 PM) :

Mr Bowles
Absolutely
Flawless!

Blogger Unknown said ... (9:40 PM) :

Dapper.
I love every single element of his outfit, his poise, posture. And i LOVE the two blokes looking on in the background. Fashion icon to the max!

Blogger Pure Aesthetic said ... (4:32 PM) :

Can Hamish Bowles ever dress badly? this is far more simple than alot of the things he's shot wearing. Loved the section in Fantastic Man a while ago with him in one of Bunny Rogers's old suits.

Anonymous Wedding Cakes Pictures said ... (12:15 AM) :

Love it!! from the haircut through the scarf and down to the purple boots!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:44 PM) :

And to think my friends laughed when I purchased a pair of aubergine Wellies. I love this:)

Anonymous kel said ... (6:26 PM) :

This man is pure elegance!

Anonymous Brendan said ... (12:57 PM) :

You people are out of your mind. Anybody who works at Marc Jacobs knows these boots are the most awful scraps of refuse. I'd rather have wet shoes.
