Androgyny personified. The jacket and the bag are totally rocking.

that haircut doesn't do that face justice

This is the way to go. Exceptional!

you'd think i'd be sick of black and brown by now. this just makes me like it more.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:51 PM) :

If she had a little square mustache who would she remind you of? Come on...

I like the haircut!

Beautiful blazer and bag! Not convinced about the vintage shoes though...

Anonymous Room for Snark said ... (2:05 PM) :

agreed with anonymous about the haircut. lovely outfit, though. the color of the socks barely peeking through is our favorite part.

Blogger Thays said ... (2:06 PM) :

I really love the hair and the bag!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:12 PM) :

where is the bag from?? i want it!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:12 PM) :

straight from Jack in the Box commercia. LOL

Blogger Girl - Personal Stylist said ... (2:14 PM) :

In certain way, I liked it! ;)

** Xoxo **

Blogger Unknown said ... (2:18 PM) :

its boring and lifeless.
and i dont know is it just the photography but tht pants do not look good on him.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:19 PM) :

Who is this woman? She has the face of a Cubist painting, like she stepped right out of Picasso's Les Demoiselles d'Avignon, and went straight to Comme des Garcons to get dressed.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:26 PM) :

wow, talk about making yourself looking terrible with ill-fitting clothing and a foolish haircut - sad

Blogger Brian said ... (2:28 PM) :

Bowl cut or hight water pants. Pick one. Both makes you look like Rain Man...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:28 PM) :

thumbs way up to the bag. thumbs down to the haircut.

dig the ochre jacket against black canvas

Blogger FROCKOLOGY.com said ... (2:54 PM) :

Man or Woman, who knows? More importantly why care. It's a great look for anyone.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:05 PM) :

NOT a fan at all. The ostrich?? bag is nice. It looks like super soft leather. That's the only nice thing I can say about this one.

Blogger Ripped Jeans said ... (3:09 PM) :

oh the bag!
http://modebanana.blogspot.com/

Anonymous Edgar C said ... (3:09 PM) :

in the words of funk group cameo "she's strange and I like it"

Blogger Unknown said ... (3:12 PM) :

Gorgeous face, heinous haircut. And that jacket isn't doing her any favors, unless she's hiding a baby bump behind that bag.

Can't wait to dig out my old Prada laceup oxfords.

Blogger Lorena said ... (3:25 PM) :

Not feeling the haircut, but dig the bag. Perhaps that sort of haircut is a love it or hate it thing.

http://ganymedekids.blogspot.com

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:28 PM) :

I just don't like the way the jacket and high-water, pegged pants make this person look like a pear. The bag makes me drool and I can almost see the haircut, although it's strange, too. I do like the head-on look - confidence!

Blogger Iyengar's Impetus said ... (3:52 PM) :

-where can I find this jacket ?

Anonymous Shveik said ... (3:53 PM) :

Now that's an obviously pretty girl, who made a great and not easy job to make herself look like a quite handsome but maybe a bit too effeminate boy. Question is - what for? Not in my taste.

Anonymous Le 21ème said ... (3:54 PM) :

This is so good! Who is that jacket by? Ann D? Looks amazing overall!

- 21arrondissement.com

Blogger Deanna said ... (3:57 PM) :

The cut-away of the jacket combined with the taper in the pants makes her middle look like humpty dumpty (or like she's pregnant.) I like the individual pieces, and her haircut certainly makes her unique looking, but i find the overall silhouette to be pretty unflattering.

Blogger sofiasophie said ... (4:08 PM) :

strange beauty!
inspiring anyway.....

Anonymous Questioner said ... (4:08 PM) :

Really love the jacket and the bag.

But who thinks that tapered pants are good? She has thin hips, so they're not so bad on her. But anyone with hips (and not just heavy people) end up with that unattractive ice cream cone silhouette. Don't we remember the 80's and 90's?

And her face is so beautiful, but that haircut is so severe.

Blogger chiara said ... (4:19 PM) :

gosh I love that jacket!

Blogger Katherine said ... (4:21 PM) :

You've have got to be bold to rock that hair cut. I adore her.

Blogger Tanya said ... (4:49 PM) :

Let's look at this outfit as just a really interesting outfit. Not as one worn by a female or male. I think she is exceptional. I would compliment her on the street. She also really seems like she doesn't care what anyone thinks, good or bad. Love.

Blogger Samantha Hutchinson said ... (4:50 PM) :

I'm so confused. But I love the bag!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:54 PM) :

She's eye-catching, but mostly because 1) it takes (at least) a double-take to identify her gender; and 2) the whole ensemble is so freakin strange. Love the bag, but don't like the high stance on the jacket, pegged pants, ugly shoes, or the unflattering bowl cut. But I've got to hand it to her; it takes a lot of guts to walk out of the house with this look!

Anonymous Anna said ... (4:56 PM) :

What an interesting look! I dig the androgynous thing, but I'd love to see her in an uber-feminine dress with that haircut... just for the contrast.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:58 PM) :

@Shveik --

What for? Maybe because she likes it? If there's one thing I can't stand it's people who come on here and ask WHY someone dresses or cuts their hair the way they do. Personally, I love it. People like her make the world more interesting.

Blogger uhuhuhjn said ... (5:03 PM) :

nice jacket

Anonymous Christian said ... (5:05 PM) :

I think she should drop the haircut. I like the clothes but not the fit! Imagin this girl with long hair but same outfit.....
Love the bag.

Blogger Olive and Oud said ... (5:06 PM) :

I love her androgynous hair and clothes--bold, quirky, artistic. Her look makes me wish I knew her.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:30 PM) :

I LOVE the bag... the androgyny here is great.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:50 PM) :

Bold choice. And quite possibly the most unflattering look I've ever seen, but to each their own.

Anonymous FashionStyleAdvice said ... (5:54 PM) :

Oh wow - I love this person's style... Great jacket!

Milana from www.FashionStyleAdvice.com

Blogger Lisette said ... (5:55 PM) :

She may not be wearing the most flattering hairstyle or clothes, but she stops you in your tracks, doesn't she? The bag is fabulous!

Blogger dy of ghost said ... (6:00 PM) :

that's a neat jacket :)

Anonymous Blade said ... (6:13 PM) :

Really like the morning coat type cut away.

Saw something similar the other day on the street in Manhattan. Tried to catch up to get a pic but no luck. Great look

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:17 PM) :

I love it. The silhouette with the peg leg, high water trousers, the shoes, the hair cut of course - it feels very much like "now", but not in a horrible trendy way. Quite unique.

Blogger Graham I. Haynes said ... (6:24 PM) :

I'm surprised so many people had a problem with this look, but it made me think about how we sometimes equate stylish with sexy. Some styles aren't meant to be sexy, though, just an outward expression of uniqueness. I personally love this.

(And if you don't think so, you can SuckMySavvy.com!)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:27 PM) :

Although the haircut isn't for me, she seems comfortable with it and has a lovely expression on her face. I do love her bag more than I can say though.

Blogger Unknown said ... (6:30 PM) :

i love the bag . . so rockin'

Blogger Ash said ... (6:42 PM) :

QUIRKY AND UNIQUE...but doesnt necessarily mean that it's suitable for the person.

the hair cut reminds me a monk's hair.
no offense.

Blogger Duchesse said ... (6:50 PM) :

A singular appearance, interesting at first glance, and then of which I tire easily.

Blogger she-who-travels-with-camera said ... (7:01 PM) :

the more I look at her the more I am intrigued. It's a very interesting portrait. I wonder what she's getting out of her bag...

Blogger Unknown said ... (7:16 PM) :

I want to soften up the hair a bit, but love the bag. I'd like to see her move---that looks like an outfit for striding down the street with confidence.

Blogger spore said ... (7:23 PM) :

SHE KNOWS.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:50 PM) :

what is it? other than a monk in a timewarp, i mean. sometimes i don't like the mystery of androgyny (this is one of those times). makes me have to work too hard. jacket's kinda cool, though.

Blogger CF35 said ... (7:57 PM) :

What a beautifull person...X

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:00 PM) :

Vivienne Westwood blazer? Definitely maybe. And lol at Anon 1:51 PM.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:12 PM) :

This woman looks unique and interesting - a refreshing change from the same-same stilettos and short skirts. I love it!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:36 PM) :

Hello Friar Tuck!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:42 PM) :

interesting look, but i used to live in milan and this haircut is too extreme for me on a man or a woman. This is actually a woman, I met her a few times and she works for Prada - hence the 'forward' style

Blogger Andre Gorr said ... (11:03 PM) :

Mr Sart, did you intentionally put the mirror image of this pic to confuse us?
isn't it ladies' cut of a jacket finished with men's side closure???

she is nice person with beautiful face, but missing some accents/accessories in her outfit...

Blogger TERI REES WANG said ... (11:54 PM) :

Right on cue with the Jack-in-the-Box
"Bowl Cut" commercial.

...say "Cheese".

Anonymous Dustyflint said ... (3:16 AM) :

I really like this "Trappist Oompa-Loompa" look. I think it is very well put together and fun. Wondering if the photo was flipped - the jacket certainly looks like a woman's jacket but buttons like a man's. I think it is a terrific look.

Blogger Marie-Luise said ... (4:05 AM) :

I love how the jacket gives the outfit it's femininity. without it, the outfit would look bland and too masculine, but having it.. wow.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:48 AM) :

Great texture and color on the pants :)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:03 AM) :

Thank you for showing something quirky, individual and creative instead of the boring cliché of plastic women with long hair, high heels en bare legs.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:21 AM) :

Beautiful face!No sign of makeup and yet so naturally beautiful and captivating. Nothing wrong with her hair, just unique. Better than those generic "the city/hills" personalities. You know who I'm talking about.

Blogger Adrian said ... (7:37 AM) :

amazing look!

Blogger shark mombassa said ... (7:42 AM) :

unique. pudding bowl/monks haircut, muted palette, love trouseaus/jeans that are cut like this, little turnup, interesting bag but quite ugly, Jacket would look better with one button done up. shoes predictable but ok.

Anonymous Life is good! said ... (8:19 AM) :

An urban Jeanne D'Arc. I wouldn't wear this but she is fanatstic. Would love to know more about her.

Blogger Ste said ... (8:25 AM) :

I love the bag. Does anyone know what bag is that?

Blogger laweezil said ... (8:26 AM) :

I want that bag!!!!!!

Blogger Barbara said ... (9:42 AM) :

Strong and beautiful androgeny but the haircut is just too cutesy. Is she pregnant?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:55 AM) :

looks like vintage Romeo Gigli no? From about 1990...hair is bad and bag j'adore...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:10 AM) :

wonderful!

Anonymous rachel said ... (10:17 AM) :

I am so drawn to looks like this that exaggerate a silhouette rather than balance it out; it's so much more interesting and it shows a certain level of confidence. It's how I like to dress - I've got hips and a midsection, hear me roar. It's great how she's injected so much femininity into a seemingly masculine look.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:49 AM) :

love it. So un-conventional/commercial....love the medieval/boy/ compact and as-a-whole(no unnecessary clutter) element to this look.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:59 AM) :

what is this? que es eso? kore nani ka? in three languages a big question.

Anonymous Edwina said ... (10:59 AM) :

Is this bag ostrich leather? Because I heard the other day that ostrich feathers are really thick and so when the skin is made into a hide it leaves big holes when the hair is pulled out that make a strange pattern. Wooah if it is then that is so so cool!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:04 AM) :

Fabulous shot! Controversy in her style.....that is what makes art/style/so powerful for those of us who love fashion.
It all works, she knows what she is doing and we can only respect the statement and enjoy!
Thanks.....L

Blogger Nellig said ... (11:18 AM) :

This is a young Gethenian snapped on the streets of Karhide, obviously.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:19 AM) :

Meant to say what a contrast this is w/previous photo on 9th St., NY of girl hailing cab.

Anonymous tgc said ... (11:39 AM) :

i hate the haircut, i don't like the jacket, i am indifferent about the bag and i don't like the vintage shoes. i like the red socks, and the face expression of this person makes me have sympathy about her despite what she's wearing.

Blogger lintmag said ... (11:56 AM) :

Vintage Gigli silhouette and medieval hair - I think it works for her. I would add some great earrings or a corsage just for a little extra.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:58 AM) :

love her baggggggggggg

Anonymous grizzlesnort said ... (12:32 PM) :

I look at this woman and imagine someone who is inspired by indigenous dance forms and has started taking tap classes. Her boyfriend, who owns a gallery that sells old icons, finds her haircut adorable. She prefers Japanese prints and has some in her bag. The jacket belonged to her mother. She prefers Wendy's to Jack in the Box. She is wearing vintage perfume.

Blogger Devi said ... (12:42 PM) :

Like everything about it except the hair and the shoes! LOVE the bag.

Blogger Tagatha said ... (12:52 PM) :

There's something very medieval in this. I like it.

Blogger TheHypeAround... said ... (1:01 PM) :

Joan of Arc meets Stan Laurel. All she needs is a Derby Hat to top off the look

Anonymous Maranda said ... (1:02 PM) :

I love everything about her, although the jacket does make in look like she's slouching.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:16 PM) :

i love this!

Blogger Sarah W said ... (2:22 PM) :

My husband walked up behind me while I was looking at this photo and asked, "What is that?" Hmmm...

I think this pretty and slender woman has not done herself justice.

Anonymous Mary said ... (2:25 PM) :

Is the bag Il Bisonte?

Blogger Filipe said ... (4:31 PM) :

Lovely bag and very nice blaser. Hair and shoes are so wrong! The pants do absolutely nothing for her shape.

Anonymous nick hockley said ... (4:33 PM) :

what a lot of whittering about handbags and haircuts and "I wouldn't leave the house like that" - I see an interesting stylish person whose intelligence and character sing out - what's not to like?

Blogger Joy Mars said ... (4:43 PM) :

What a remarkable self-created creature she is.

Only on this site!

Blogger Cosima said ... (5:02 PM) :

horrible haircut. Love the rest.

Anonymous sahara said ... (5:12 PM) :

I think ma looks fantastic! There's girl written all over her, though your taste in women would have to be "jolie lade", as opposed to "doll".

The haicut looks like a friend did it, but she has the right kind of her/him face to pull it off.

I'd love to holla' at her! She could attend anything, with me.

Blogger Joseph Moss said ... (5:16 PM) :

I think this is how every (lesbian, butch, even? et al) woman should look. Beautiful Androgyny!

Anonymous Annika said ... (5:19 PM) :

I don't understand the hair. Am I missing something? Please explain...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:51 PM) :

She's fantastic and organic, like moss...that outfit could be worn by a character from The Wind in the Willows. I would love to see the way she walks.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:30 PM) :

an INDIVIDUAL! Style not fashion! THANK YOU!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:51 PM) :

Haircut brings to mind Christian Slater in "Name of the Rose", want to like it, but...

Blogger Hawa said ... (12:19 AM) :

amazing!!! love the proportions here....she does everything justice!

Anonymous Oonagh said ... (1:47 AM) :

Love it all, very Romeo Gigli, romantic somehow.
The face of an angel.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:12 AM) :

What a great combination of texture color and unexpected androgyny. She is so comfortable in her own oddness. She looks like she would have interesting things to say in a way that simple sweet girls don't.

Blogger Michael Limaco said ... (8:50 PM) :

Love this girl. She looks like a rocker chick I know from Seattle.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:26 PM) :

Love her shoes and the whole look--she's got such a great sense of personal style. I'm so sick of cookie-cutter sex in the city women wearing 4-5 inch hooker stiletto heels and short skirts with bare legs. I don't care if they are $1000 Louboutins or Jimmy Choos, if they're that high, you look like a cheap hooker/fashion roadkill in them. I wish that awful trend would die and women would dress more like this amazing creature. But unfortunately heels seem to be getting even more extreme this season--is it a conspiracy against women?

Blogger krisnn said ... (7:03 PM) :

it's funny.... a skinny effeminate boy can dress in heels and lace, throw his picture up on a fashion blog and it's "FABULOUS." a woman can cut her hair and dress androgynous-like, but put her picture up and she "doesn't do herself justice."
whatever.
thanks for giving her a voice, Sartorialist.

Blogger rockstarbabu said ... (5:20 AM) :

hiiiiiiiiii
Beautiful face. The jacket and the bag are totally rocking.

Blogger Bela said ... (3:39 PM) :

What's with the 'Henry V' haircut?! Preposterous!

Blogger Unknown said ... (7:57 PM) :

The pants! I want my pants to fit like that.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:52 AM) :

Absolutely lovely. She looks confident and interesting. (And it's always heartening to see something besides the same-old, same-old wispy-girly look celebrated as stylish...)

Anonymous anonymommy said ... (11:54 AM) :

It's her look. She looks comfortable in her own unique skin. Makes me happy she's out there in the world.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:10 PM) :

Concentration camp survivor?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:36 AM) :

So typical, the woman doesn't have long hair, or some kind of Rihanna hair cut and lots of people think the outfit is ill-composed. I've seen tons of pictures with guys in this kind of outfit and everyone thought it was handsome. What's going on? She's the one of the few real people I see on here.

Blogger Zero said ... (6:07 PM) :

SUPERB! :-)

Anonymous Jencine said ... (4:10 AM) :

I don't care that I'm not crazy about each particular item, I enjoy the feeling I get of the photo as a whole. I think this person is very warm despite the somewhat cold aura surrounding the angular aspects of the outfit.

Blogger Liz S said ... (5:14 AM) :

I love her! That look is so simple yet so bold, striking and powerful. Everything works for me here.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:25 AM) :

it has such an odd quality, but is also very recognizable at the same time. i love it.
i am not convinced about the haircut with that face, but seperately, i love them both.
