On the Street......Color Story, Sydney


I don't know what this means from a fashion perspective, but looking at the crazy confluence of colors alone is totally inspirational to me.

Wow, what a gorgeous picture to start my day. I agree with you, totally inspiring combination of colors, particularly the rich purple and blue. This is a shot that I wouldn't have noticed if I encountered it on the street myself.

wow. this picture reminds me so much of my mother. i remember waking up on summer mornings as a kid, walking downstairs to find freshly cut peaches and strawberries with sugar, then going outside to the porch to eat my breakfast and chat with my mother who'd be doing yardwork outside - pruning plants, watering the garden, etc. what a strong woman.

Just back from Brisbane having missed the Cutler and Co Melbourne meet, but being in sinc with the Sart's travel clock and being the first to post is irresistible, from a fashion perspective I think this is know as the perfect T turned into a dress ... with som nice glass.

Great colours, including the brights (tents, dress, red t-shirt and tablecloth) and the more subtle (the sky, the bag and her hair). I love her shape and the unlaced plimsolls, too. Very relaxed. I thought Australia was cold just now - doesn't look like it here.

She looks like a low budget Peter-Pan, but the colors and fashion make this look like it was taken in 1963 and published in a high end magazine of the time. You went into a time warp.

Love this photo. It's a feeling, a mood, and those inspire me.

Also, for those confused about the weather Down Under. Don't worry, we were too! Autumn is schizophrenic here - cold & rainy and warm & sunny, often in the same day. Last Saturday (market day in Paddington) was sunny and beautiful after a couple of chilly days.

First of all, yeah, it's a gorgeous shot. The colors are fantastic but what gets me is this lady's vibrant, healthy, look.

She is the best of Australia IMO. I've spent time there and found the women to be so sporty and healthy -- even the ones who smoked! That's what really excited me, outdoorsy, athletic adventure geek -- with style -- that I am.

Here is a great example of someone who "could wear a potato sack and look good".... This stunning woman elevates a potato sack into something really nice.

Also, her smile, her strong posture, the way the sun lights her face -- it calls to mind those lifestyle shots in Life magazine back in the 60's. Like "out and about with Olympic tennis champ Stretchina McStilts".

But most of all.... I want to challenge her in a kayak race....

This looks like the Bondi flea market, or is it Paddington? I found Sydney to be one of the most fashionable cities I've traveled to, including Paris, London, NYC, Milan. The Bondi market, if you get a chance, has amazing clothes from local designers. It's really incredible.

I love her legs! she is one who does have legs like they should be. Not of the skinny sticks but still thin/sporty. She rocks the dress, which is kinda hard when it is that simple! It could look sloppy at someone else.

Australia has a many offerings however fashion isn't one of them. It just don't cut the cloth.

The colours and that natural light, too, which is so different for painting in Australia. Looks like Paddington Markets to me - this image captures the feel of a Sydney urban weekend as summer just keeps on going.

Could be almost anywhere on earth. Still, I find I like the picture "fashion-wise." She's got a big, comfy tee in a very complimentary color for her that fits nicely and goes well with her unlaced sneaks that are equally complimentary. oh i absolutly KNOW what you mean. When i wrote last day about a wonderful bag, i saw the same and talked in my post about colour contrasts.

The first time when i felt this could be a trend, it was while watching at your blog.
I think this stuff will be the next hype in the fashion industry. Playing with red/blue, green/violett, yellow/brown and so on.

Now THAT is a picture from the home town I love and feel in my bones! Style of place exists in the way people interact with their environment, and this photo captures the style essence of Sydney beautifully. Congrats on finding it and capturing it.

I don't think of this as a "fashion" blog per se. There are plenty of those around and many of them read like shopping lists, which is fine (hey, I like perving on Paris fashion week as much as the next person!) but not necessarily what I look for when I come here. Style transcends fashion. I see people who are fashionably dressed all the time who don't have much actual style. And I see people who seem oblivious to trends and fashion who have immense personal style. This lady, in my opinion, has style. Oh and I'm digging the light in these photos too, everything seems to GLOW.

i think this story is about style, not about fashion. sometimes and some places are not concerned as widely and deeply engrossed in fashion. Sydney seems like less of a peacocking place and more of this - smiles, comfort, sincerity and good weather. seems like.

As a former New Yorker now living in Sydney; It IS difficult to find fashion related inspiration here. It's either "tarty" and unwearable (Sass and Bide), or So entirely trend driven that it's out of style before the model leaves the catwalk. I wish I saw more women here like the one in this photo. She looks effortlessly chic and completely devoid of all the extraneous "bells, whistles, and sequins" that are so over-wrought in this city. Now Melbourne is a different story.....

The colors really are something special. She doesn't really stand out, which is not an insult. Each major element is necessary for the picture to work. The vases, the girl, the table cloth, the tents... It's all necessary and all so engaging to the eye.
