the hat reminds me of a rabi. i love how the collar peeps out :)

Blogger The Concrete Commentator said ... (9:19 AM) :

Wow! I actually kinda like this. I've done that before...wrapped one of my really cool throws around me, but never went out of the house with it, but fantasize about it. I love his shoes, and the hat gives him a quaker quality, which I really like. See...this is what I like, a different approach to fashion than what we normally see everyday, it gets us all to think out of the box, even if you don't like the whole ensemble, there is something you can take away from it.

Blogger Emma said ... (9:32 AM) :

Great find! He looks warm and cozy..
xx

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:36 AM) :

Amazing how the hat makes it work. No hat, no personality, no photo. Different hat would look familiar and boring. I love this guy, something in his style looks new and very interesting. I am curious about his other choices.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:43 AM) :

Interesting, its a bit of Father Guido Sarducci meets The Man With No Name. Great shoes though.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:51 AM) :

A wonderful looking man . If I didnt know him Id want to meet him! :-) Like his easy manner--and his beard w/ contrasting attire---something you might expect on a more 'modelesque' man.

Blogger Jazzbuff630 said ... (9:51 AM) :

A cross between Tevye from the movie "Fiddler on the Roof", and Pancho Villa.

Blogger Unknown said ... (9:53 AM) :

He also looks kind of amish, doesn't he?

Blogger Lihsa said ... (10:09 AM) :

OMG beautiful. Thank you.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:11 AM) :

All the pics in Milano have men with skinny legs...how come us southern italians don't come out this wayi!! Guess they don't have Sophia Loren..but I love this Londonesque version of a Mexican bandito.

too somber

Blogger Lucy said ... (10:29 AM) :

Let's take a look at this guy.
He is wearing a classic white shirt, a checked sporty jacket over it, a giant scarf. Moreover, he chose patent shoes and a Father Piligrim - style hat.
This is remarkable, he put together the most apparently unmatchable pieces of clothing and he did it so well that he doesn't look exaggerate. Congratuliations! =)

Blogger Desiree Masiela said ... (10:31 AM) :

Love the layaring, the oversized scuff the pointee shoes and bowler hat love ensemble.

Blogger jamesylala said ... (10:35 AM) :

I love LOVE L O V E IT!!!!!!! great look with a sharp since of joie de Verve...I wonder where I could find him wandering about.

Blogger Unknown said ... (10:44 AM) :

Very nice shawl!!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:51 AM) :

Grande Marcelo superPR !!!!

Blogger indigo warrior said ... (10:53 AM) :

That's a very cool look. I like seeing men wear wraps like that instead of just going for the expected scarf.

Blogger kellywinonaoxford said ... (11:13 AM) :

it's like the head of another person on the body.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:17 AM) :

Awesome. And I love his beautifully polished Oxfords.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:17 AM) :

Looks good, survivalist bear trapper Amish Lubbavacher kind of way...but he's only one song away from Fiddler On the American Gothic Roof.

Blogger Karen said ... (11:31 AM) :

First comment! :) I love the way the scarf looks wrapped around him, definitely completes the outfit! Definitely love the pants and shoes as well!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:33 AM) :

You see, Tuco, in this world there's two kinds of people, my friend: Those with loaded guns and those who dig. You dig.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:47 AM) :

wow! I leave in Milano and I never seen a sexy man like this one. Elengat and Male

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:00 PM) :

I'M TOTALLY INTO IT!
so NOT now!

Blogger Tess said ... (12:08 PM) :

Hey Satorialist! How come you never photograph in Roma? It is a fantastically interesting city with lots of fashonistas.

Blogger Unknown said ... (12:29 PM) :

Dope.

Would have been better with different shoes, but this guy's got stones.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:40 PM) :

I love it, it's like "Hacidic Chic".

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:58 PM) :

Wonderful - Definitely Spagetti Western (pity no Terence Hill!).

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:04 PM) :

maybe some brighter colors would perk up his spirits or maybe he's just tired from spending so much time picking his outfit.

Blogger Mr. Badami said ... (1:04 PM) :

he has such a tremendous 'presence'. The clothes only enhance his obvious confidence and sense of purpose

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:10 PM) :

The Cisco Kid invades Milan...maybe, if he had two six guns and a lit cigar. He could be the bad guy in a spaghetti western with the right amount of dirt. Great look. Fab shot, Sart.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:20 PM) :

No matter how ascetic the face, his shiny shoes give him away. I bet this man has a joke or two to tell.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:34 PM) :

He looks like a Jewish gaucho.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:36 PM) :

Haha I made the "Jewish gaucho" comment but then reading through everything I realize jazzbuff already called it the same: "A cross between Tevye from the movie Fiddler on the Roof, and Pancho Villa."

haha

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:37 PM) :

Is this stearnly handsome man Hasedic or is he borrowing inspiration from them? Either way he's got an inimitable look going on here.

Blogger junglesiren said ... (1:39 PM) :

I somehow expect Lee Van Cleef and Eli Wallach to ride up on horses, guns pulled, sweat coating their faces in an oily slick. And the flies! Oh the flies!

The good: The pants, the shoes, his nicely cropped beard. His handsome face.

The bad (to the bone, that is): That hat and scarf (blanket really). He's a bad ass for pulling it off without a bit of silliness.

The ugly: Ain't no ugly here.

Maybe this is where Rei Kawakubo got inspiration for her f/w '09 show (or vice versa... or not). Those blankets as throws are cool. I've been doing it for years with, for example, an indigo colored Guatemalan woven blanket I bought in Mexico. I throw it over a close fitted jacket like my gray Theory pin striped. I'll even wear that to a meeting. And yeah, I feel like a female Clint Eastwood.

Blogger Josh said ... (1:40 PM) :

Those look like Dior jeans to me?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:49 PM) :

Orthodox?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:53 PM) :

Brilliant! Great coat underneath. I think his serious, Victorian picture expression is perfect.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:53 PM) :

I'm not sure how I feel about the top button of his shirt being done up, but I'm seeing it everywhere these days.

Anyone have thoughts on that?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:01 PM) :

seriously sexy

Blogger Joy Mars said ... (2:10 PM) :

Good phrase, Anonymous 11:17!
"Amish Lubavacher"

Is he serious? Or is he spoofing seriousness? -- like the "youth" below.

I can't see where all the fringe is coming from. It can't all be coming from the shawl. And without the hanging fringe on both sides, the "talis" look wouldn't come off as strong. Is it part of the jacket?

His beard is a masterpiece.

The jacket is fabric fab. Its pattern is echoed in the painted pedestrian strips. Once again, brilliant photographic choices.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:29 PM) :

nice shoes!

Blogger Dhppy said ... (2:33 PM) :

He's dressed as if he meant to go to the South American Patagonia but got on the wrong flight. It explains the deflated expression, too.

Blogger bg said ... (2:34 PM) :

the good, the bad, and the amish

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:36 PM) :

Zorro in Italy!

Blogger Dominica said ... (2:59 PM) :

His style has a religious feel to it .... very nice....love the XL-scarf

Blogger Hickers said ... (3:07 PM) :

When you list what he is wearing, as Lucy does, there is no way that this outfit should work as well as it does. I'm not sure if this chap dresses from the shoes up.

Blogger Ellie Lee said ... (3:09 PM) :

Love his outfit; but just; not the hat!

Blogger noelakadjtambour said ... (3:24 PM) :

i love how the stripe on the guy contrasts with those of the street.

he looks a little bit el greco.

6/10. hassidic harry potter. i appreciate the obliviousness of the skinny pant in relation to the rest of the outfit, keeps it interesting.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:17 PM) :

The pose is like an outtake but really works -- great choice. Great mix of things he's wearing.

Blogger Laurence John said ... (7:29 PM) :

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:52 PM) :

ooh editor in chief. no wonder the man has a statement to make! he looks like the hippest orthodox jew ever!

Blogger CW said ... (9:53 PM) :

This man is looking for his lost donkey.

Shoes, trousers, shirt and even the Amish/Chassidic hat - really just and undented regular hat - are all good. The combination of the dressy elements with the casual jacket and the blanket is bring it down.

Blogger Unknown said ... (10:20 PM) :

Everything about this look is so balanced and so mysterious, from the hat to the shiny shoes. The addition of the wrap is a bold sartorial choice. Nicely done.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:38 PM) :

handsome est' man yet.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:49 PM) :

Blogger Jack Daniel said ... (7:55 AM) :

What kind of pants is he wearing?
I like his shoes.

Blogger Alvin said ... (9:58 AM) :

wow, i really like the hat. The style to me is a mixture of trampish, but has allot of class.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:09 AM) :

What is so great about this picture is that it is really "old world". There are men all over the world in poor countries dressing like this or that used to dress like this ( minus the shoes ). This is how they keep warm. In the remote villages of Portugal, the Balkans, the Middle East, Tibet, Africa.........just look in National Geographics.

The difference here is that he is doing it in an urban, fashion-forward setting.

LOVE IT !

Blogger DDW said ... (12:49 PM) :

This guy is amazing. Beautiful scarf, nice shoes, awesome hat, but more importantly, WHAT a fantastic stare! Can you imagine getting in his cross-hairs out of the blue--daaaaamn.

Blogger pfiati kitty said ... (1:09 PM) :

wow! very very sexy! mainly because of the serious expression on his face which breaks a bit with the outfit.

Blogger andrea.at.the.blue.door said ... (1:10 PM) :

Now, see, when I rant about how men should wear shawls more often, this is what I mean. And again, this is a look you'd also want to see in motion, because I bet the ends of the shawl are going to move in beautiful ways.

Nobody has commented yet on how the parallel white lines of the street markings are echoed in the white/grey of his jacket. Let's have a round of applause for the brilliant composition of the photo.

Blogger Brian said ... (2:29 PM) :

Hassidic Hipster???

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:31 PM) :

I love how your photos incorporate the clothes and the background behind it. The subtle shades of black and grey from his clothes are echoed in the crosswalk stripes (you did the same thing with the hoodie and Barbour outfit from the other day).

As for this fellow all I can say is HOT! His beard is perfect for his patigonia themed outfit. I really appreciate how such disparate elements can blend into this inspired outfit. Like dress up with all the fun things in his closet. The skinny jeans, the patent shoes, the checked coat and white shirt are so current but the addition of the hat and shawl completely transform their relevance. Excellent and inspiring! I love it!

Thanks.

Nice idea and smart man under the clothes :)

Blogger HC said ... (9:26 PM) :

too old worldish for my taste, but admittedly the entire outfit fits together.

When was the picture taken? This would probably be better received in November. I'm sick of the dreary black and grays right now. Show some colors! Its almost spring.

Blogger Octavia Morris said ... (10:33 PM) :

this is one of my favorites so far. I love how the crosswalk echoes his jacket. I also love that he manages to look so old-timey with very modern pieces (the jacket with elastic waistband, crisp white shirt). VERY man with no name goes to italy.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:14 PM) :

The draping throw emphasises his whole outfit. The jeans look skinnier and the shoes look shinier.
He is really outside the box of generic fashion and I like to see that on the street.

Marcelo is killing it in this photo! Keeping his look true to his Patagonia roots, but still giving it his own sophisticated Milano touch. Always stylish, and such a great guy! How do you say "panache" in Italian? Marcelo . . . that's how!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:35 PM) :

The impression I get from his style and composure seems to pull influences from: Hassidic + Gauchesca + Adrian Brody for Ermenegildio Zegna.

His earnest stance is interesting! He seems very comfortable allowing his hands to remain unoccupied. Also, the wrinkles in his tight ants are just right.

What neat facial here, too!
