Nice shoes, Michael:-)

Blogger COOL & BORED said ... (6:14 AM) :

I like his attitude.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:14 AM) :

I love everything about this - the layering, the slouchiness of the jeans that still show his body, the color palette, those EYES... Everything is age-appropriate and still hip. The more I look at it, the more I love it!

Blogger AliceSeagull said ... (6:15 AM) :

He looks pretty much good!

Blogger ricola said ... (6:24 AM) :

quite nice, I must Say.

Anonymous S.R.Reisner said ... (6:29 AM) :

So simple yet so elegant...so typically Stype!

He is just fabulous!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:56 AM) :

first! Mr. Stipe, long time no see!

Anonymous Mermaid said ... (7:05 AM) :

I think Michael Stipe (a personnal god of mine)is incredibly beautiful on the first photograph. You captured his amazing blue gaze... He looks great with a beard. Gives him a bit of austerity which has the greatest effect. (on me at least... and i'm not a man!)
Love your work by the way. Endless source of wondering and inspiration.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:39 AM) :

He's elegant and georgeous as usual. Love it. Love the beard too.

Blogger Sara said ... (7:41 AM) :

Nice stripes! But he doesn't look cheerful. at all.

He always looks sexy!

That man is so dreamy.

Anonymous Beth said ... (8:19 AM) :

So comfortable in his skin.

Kudos, Mr Stipe.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:26 AM) :

I love his eyes, and THAT beard- he looks very much in the moment, as if he's thinking "Its ok, just take it, I won't move".
Very nice!

Blogger ana villanueva said ... (8:30 AM) :

Wow! I like it!

Anonymous Ben said ... (8:57 AM) :

He strikes me as sort of groomed, modern-day Walt Whitman. a refined animal, to be sure.

Blogger The Clever Pup said ... (8:58 AM) :

I hope he continues to let his hair grow back in

Blogger Unknown said ... (9:12 AM) :

i love him

SO cool

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:31 AM) :

I always knew he was a rock star, and from the looks of his 'turn out' in the bottom photo, seems he might have also been a great dancer.

nice.

Blogger Bonnie Marcotte said ... (10:04 AM) :

Le sigh...he and I are from the same town...this gives me hope that I too, a girl from Athens, Georgia, can be worthy of your website.

Great photos. I think the second photo is especially well done, excellent sense of movement.

Blogger Hickers said ... (10:05 AM) :

It's like looking at my older brother. These shots capture him perfectly. Good job Sart.

He always dresses well.

Blogger Paolo Manaloto said ... (11:46 AM) :

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:34 PM) :

oh my god!...
he is so handsome....

Anonymous issyme said ... (1:51 PM) :

He's always had a great sense of style...there is nothing really special that would hit you over the head, but there is a subtly to it. Maybe it is that he is, well, Michael Stipe...Shiney, Happy.....

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:00 PM) :

His look is relaxed, at ease--visually reciprocal to his active and restless mind. His subject is always interesting, as with these photos. Great shots.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:15 PM) :

G-O-R-G-E-O-U-S-!-!-!-!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:23 PM) :

Looking like an old man - not a rock star!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:16 PM) :

Clearly Mr Stipe has got better with age. No longer the fuzzy headed waif of the eighties.

Blogger Guro said ... (3:18 PM) :

What a beauty

Anonymous i has no brains said ... (3:25 PM) :

FIRST!

Anonymous GenerationStrange said ... (3:27 PM) :

Blogger anonwomen said ... (3:33 PM) :

Mr Stipe is just so effortlessly cool. I love the punch of rust against all the black.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:40 PM) :

Oh I just love him!

Blogger cautiondriverknitting said ... (4:01 PM) :

If I did not recognize him with the beard, I would have recognized him from his standing posture. It is absolutely trademark!

Blogger frenchie rocky said ... (4:09 PM) :

Wahouuu !

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:11 PM) :

Forget the scarfs or gold bracelets! His beard is his best accessory! OMG, he's GORGEOUS! :-))

Anonymous the Albanian said ... (4:24 PM) :

nice pics, i just recently lost my religion...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:50 PM) :

His horizontal stripes are also reflected in the stripes in his beard. Conversation with him would be deep.

Anonymous princess glee said ... (5:31 PM) :

He's always been nice to look at, including here. Pic's dark, clothes are dark...judging from what I can see, he looks great. He presents such a well sculpted silhouette..he looks small or narrow, lean, athletic, like a dancer or divers bod. He does casual very well here. The brown scarf with the brown shoes are perfect to keep the all black interesting.

Blogger modern elegance said ... (6:20 PM) :

beautiful

Blogger E said ... (6:31 PM) :

This look is great. Love the cardigan visible at the cuff and the touches of blue. Complimented nicely by the rich colour of the scarf as well.

The silhouette in the second photo is excellent.

He has evolved into a sophisticated version of his younger self.
the way the light hits his shoe and the diagonal of the second photo is just great!

Blogger Donnie Gayfield said ... (7:42 PM) :

He's an original.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:53 PM) :

Stipe has always had style! It's refreshing to see his mug on here...thanks!

Anonymous paul said ... (8:09 PM) :

Nice..................

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:16 PM) :

I love Michael!

Anonymous Wendy La said ... (8:32 PM) :

I felt really sad after seeing these photos. Perhaps it was not the intention, but it made realise how old I was seeing the aging on Michael Stipe's face. Yet, less negatively, it brought fresh memories, nostalgic ones. Funny, the things photos and faces of them do.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:55 PM) :

Fist!Just love REM! A and Mr Stipe looks indeed!

Blogger Jack Daniel said ... (9:23 PM) :

He looks good! And has one of the most recognizable voices!

Blogger * said ... (9:53 PM) :

Stipe's sense of style is like his music: timeless and a work of art.

Dig his scarf, shoes and cuffed pants...and his sweater under blazer in top pic.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:17 PM) :

he looks so cool! so comfortable with himself...

Anonymous LindaB said ... (11:14 PM) :

He's got the most soulful eyes.

Blogger ellastica said ... (1:38 AM) :

my dream man.
i love anything and everything he chooses to wear. back in the early years REM embodied a collective brash yet sincere 'effortless' cool.
he sort of resembles a leaned out peter linbergh in the first photo.

Anonymous Corbin said ... (2:27 AM) :

Nice to see a rocker stay classy. And he's wearing that grey/brown beard quite nicely.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:04 AM) :

Great pose. Great style.
Great man. (That goes for both of you;-))

Blogger My Yaya Wears Prada said ... (3:44 AM) :

Mr. Stipe has a class of his own. I love it!

Blogger Unknown said ... (3:58 AM) :

i've always liked michael stipe's style. this just reminds me why i had such a crush on him in the 80s and 90s.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:25 AM) :

YES

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:33 AM) :

love the pose.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:38 AM) :

This is a Renaissance portrait and the blue of many restless seas captured in his eyes.

Anonymous amoilmare said ... (4:54 AM) :

I love this man.. what a elegance and grace.

Blogger andrea said ... (5:47 AM) :

The first picture is amazing... With eyes of any other colour it wouldn't be so striking and that's what makes it so beautiful! Nicely shot

Anonymous Placebo said ... (6:01 AM) :

Is he 'The' Michael Stipe? The member of R.E.M?

Blogger Célia Gonçalves said ... (6:31 AM) :

solid wisdom

Blogger rodi said ... (6:47 AM) :

Speechless. I simply cannot think of any outfit that could outshine his allure.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:15 AM) :

A whole day has passed and no comments on Michael Stipe. C'mon! He looks great!

Blogger Unknown said ... (7:19 AM) :

Blogger Unknown said ... (7:51 AM) :

i did not know mr. stipe was taking up ballet. so 80s suburban teen. love that rock star move.

Blogger style inside said ... (7:58 AM) :

Mr Stipe: my absolute coup de coeur. He is divine, always perfectly composed and with his very own special personal style. I do so love his look.

Anonymous Chesley said ... (8:27 AM) :

I too, am happy you got these shots and posted them...I remember the unfortunate elevator event.

And yes, M. Stipe looks dapper, particularly the blue stripe, blue eye shot. His worry lines between the eyebrows give me some confidence to wear mine proudly as well.

Lastly, he is so smoking hot!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:46 AM) :

One of the best dressed men in America? And a very very nice person.
Wendy La - if i could age as handsomely and elegantly as Mr Stipe, bring it on!

Blogger Unknown said ... (9:11 AM) :

He's become more fashionable and sexy as he's gotten older. Love the beard!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:11 AM) :

very handsome with the beard but I worry that the footwork is a male equivalent of the pigeon toed stance.
all the same, very nice to see him.

Anonymous mrs. tramell said ... (11:36 AM) :

"Style is a simple way of saying very complicated things" said J. Cocteau. Mr. stipe is a living myth and an elegant man...
One of the best dressed musicians.

Blogger Lisa Marie said ... (12:04 PM) :

Aging gracefully never looked better - love the salt & pepper beard!

Blogger Joy Mars said ... (1:43 PM) :

I think the first picture is about grooming. Very nicely designed beard. Who's to say he doesn't selectively color it? Only he and his haridresser know for sure!

Of course, Mr. Stipe does his blue eyes proud with the touches of blue in his sweater. Lovely.

I also like the echo of gray in the sweater. I feel having gray hair is a major fashion statement and should be worked into an outfit. This is a good example.

Second pic: one too many cell phone pics for my taste.

Blogger InStudio Blog said ... (1:49 PM) :

I would not have recognized him. I quite like the beard.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:22 PM) :

Michael Stipe has done more experimenting with fashion in his 20 years with R.E.M. than 99% of the world's population. well done sart!

Anonymous fernanda said ... (3:03 PM) :

OH MY GOD.
Michael Stipe is just awesome.

Anonymous Stephen said ... (3:59 PM) :

Michael Stipe has gotten older. I have gotten older. Michael Stipe is still beautiful. Thank you for bringing him back to mind, Sartorialist.

Blogger Di said ... (4:05 PM) :

That rocks! Stipe rocks! I met the great Peter Buck a few months ago and I can definately say he also rocks!

Blogger The Portmanteau said ... (4:57 PM) :

Nice beard, Michael.

Blogger Jenni said ... (9:07 PM) :

This is such a classic look. I think that this is the best casual look for a man. It allows him to individualize his outfit, but still look masculine and completely relaxed.

Anonymous evie said ... (1:11 AM) :

Mr Serious.

Blogger Bea said ... (7:19 AM) :

However fascinant!!!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:02 PM) :

I want to look like this when I grow up. He's gorgeous!

Blogger ikbenwelmartin said ... (8:32 AM) :

With his charisma, you could basically wear anything and still look good...It's all about the man, not the outfit (still very important however ;))

Blogger bonneyboys said ... (12:27 PM) :

I love the jolt of color in the second photo from his cinnamon brown scarf. And his stance. And I really do have a thing for turned up jean cuffs.

Blogger angie said ... (2:54 PM) :

love all of him- clothes, eyes, shyness, his appearance on jimmy fallon… great shots. *a

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:12 PM) :

I'm amazed! You took a perfect picture of a man who has been photographed so many times, in so many ways... Beautiful shot of an elegant man!

Blogger Starck Mad said ... (11:06 PM) :

'Me in Honey' indeed. LOVE it! Now the real coup, would be to get a shot of M.S's former crush, Morrissey!

I absolutely looove peolpe watching, observing and try to imagine what kind of person they are and what they do... this guy looks like someone you would like to sit down for a coffea with. Looks like he´s got a good story! If it´s solely the outfit or the whole persona, I don´t know - but it works!

Blogger T said ... (12:54 PM) :

Style. Style. Style.

Blogger KALIN said ... (4:03 PM) :

So wonderful and effortless. Love Michael.

Blogger Dan in Richmond said ... (9:30 PM) :

When we were both in our 20's Michael Stipe and I participated in a gallery talk for a group exhibition we were both in at a museum in S.C. I never saw his face or heard him speak. He was so shy (or bored)that he wore a trenchcoat and hat and stared at the floor the whole time, even when he spoke. Time long past. I think he's always been interested in his appearance and had great style (however much that style changed over the years). I've never seen him on the street. He looks good here. He still has the body to wear clothes well, anything, really. I'm not enamored of the beard. He has wonderful facial features, many of which are either hidden or obscured by the beard. I think that's a mistake. I like the un-shaven head. Nice to see him here.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:03 PM) :

It almost looks like his feet are in "fifth position." Stipe is lookin' GOOD.

Anonymous Lady Netta said ... (7:23 AM) :

Great pictures. I love him! :)

Anonymous Robby Wells said ... (7:36 PM) :

I know we should be talking about clothing, but I am blown away by how well he has aged. Yes, WELL. Especially for a typically anti-aging obsessed celebrity, he is a beautiful and rare example of timeless cool. I can only hope I age as well!

Anonymous Patricia said ... (4:05 AM) :

I wish I knew whether the bottom stance was natural or contrived.

Can't wait for you to come to Sydney!

Blogger Kira Aderne said ... (2:54 PM) :

I just adore him!

Blogger frank adam said ... (12:41 AM) :

Shtyyyyype! What a wonderful eccentric.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:57 PM) :

I like him with the long facial hair. Everything looked great until I saw his legs.

Blogger Michelle said ... (9:48 PM) :

oh, Michael is simply beautiful.
wonderful style x

Anonymous skye said ... (8:40 AM) :

how did you get this number?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:44 PM) :

I always think Stipe looks amazing. His eyes are beyond words. He has aged extremely well. If he were to go clean shaven, it would be like looking at the Micahel Stipe of 1994. Beautiful man!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:33 AM) :

wow i think i'm in love
