Love them.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:53 PM) :

Oh, I love them.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:56 PM) :

What can you say. Its perfect, yet so boring. Modern men have to dig up sartorial key points to make outfits exciting. They need to speak about you. Hence the name of your work. Its in the details. The sockless is a point for them though.

Keep up the great work.

Blogger indigo warrior said ... (5:58 PM) :

Cute boys. Nice suits. I sent Mr Cutey Pants out of the house with no socks today as well. I always wonder if the feet feel less than fresh at the end of the day (personally I cannot stand to wear closed toe shoes and no socks). Do fashion and funky feet go hand in hand or is there some secret to be void of the funk?

Blogger Jazzbuff630 said ... (6:08 PM) :

Suits and no socks? Uh-uh. Not optional.

Blogger Adriancito said ... (6:19 PM) :

so cool

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:22 PM) :

i don't like how they're not wearing knee-length socks. good looking men though

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:33 PM) :

They look great, but I wouldn't want to be in the room when either of them removes their shoes. Phee-yoo!

Blogger junglesiren said ... (6:34 PM) :

Elliot Ness' of the new millennium. Great suits. Cute boys.

I'm not a big fan of the naked ankle & suit look but it's a picked nit when a man looks this good.

Blogger kevintylerhall said ... (6:38 PM) :

Why do their suits seem to be bunching so much at the seams?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:43 PM) :

Yes, I will take them both. Thank you.

Blogger Wes Janisen said ... (6:48 PM) :

Well, if you believe everything GQ tells you, then I think these men are perfectly dressed. The socks issue seems to be the greatest debate here, but I think for summer it is more that acceptable to go without. I would never advocate blindly obeying any fashion magazine, but in this instance I think these two GQ men have it dead on.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:54 PM) :

No socks= MODERN & UPDATED !

Well proportioned suites and a few subtle changes .

Gotta love that.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:04 PM) :

I think that the sockless finish really perfects the look. kodoos to the blue suit, i love the light and dark blue combination he has put together especially ( i dont know if anyone has noticed but) with the square pocket as well.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:34 PM) :

damien and brian.... fashion editors mirroring what they preach

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:34 PM) :

i'll have the one on the right.

Blogger 99 said ... (7:36 PM) :

Whilst the sockless look is great, a fresh take on a standard look, i doubt the word fresh could be applied at the end of the day. Surely this isn't a comfortable option, hot sweaty feet is a price I simply couldn't pay!

Blogger Laguna Beach Fogey said ... (7:41 PM) :

Nice photo, Sart. I'm finding a lot to dislike in this pic: skinny jackets, skinny trousers, skinny ties, stubble, no socks...! What's going on?! It looks as if these two chaps are trying to copy an early '60s Mad Men look. Enough already.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:06 PM) :

These two clad gentlemen have a liberal sense of style. They don't conform to the idea that you must "wear" socks with oxfords... please, that was so last year, and a couple of posts ago! Let's get innovative! Lets break rules! That's what fashion/personal style is all about... save your breath!

One thing I've noticed is that whenever it comes to how men fashion themselves they are almost always at the shorter end of the stick. Why is that?

Blogger magstermash said ... (8:14 PM) :

Socks help wick away sweat though--depending on the type you buy. No socks doesn't even seem comfortable for summer.

I agree with anonymous: if I saw them removing their shoes, I would definitely be out of the vicinity in less than a second.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:17 PM) :

I love the gaze of these dudes. Looks like they are checking someone out in the late afternoon after-work kind of daze. But I agree with the many above who dis-like the bare ankles. I just imagine how awkward it must look when their legs are crossed legs at an office meeting and the pants shift up to an unflattering height. Sort of ruins the fit of the suit!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:21 PM) :

Not wearing socks just doesn't do it for me. Other than that, well done.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:25 PM) :

brian coates?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:33 PM) :

I would take them, stinky feet and all.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:50 PM) :

(baby or foot powder + loafers) - socks = no smelly feet

Blogger AnonymousUser1234 said ... (8:55 PM) :

I do not like the boat style shoes on the dark suit. I would like something more sleek.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:01 PM) :

What's with the backpacks. Dig the dressed up dock shoes, though.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:06 PM) :

I'm curious as to if the style for these highly fitted, narrow suits is making men feel they have to have thinner bodies. That kind of pressure --which is usually experienced primarily by women --would be an interesting development...

Blogger Mike Lecky said ... (9:12 PM) :

you wear hidden little loafer socks. you can buy them at banana rep. for like 10 bucks.z

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:21 PM) :

what's with the backpack????

Blogger D. Debil said ... (9:54 PM) :

Very good. I'm glad the rain stopped.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:55 PM) :

Calling Dr.Scholl's!

Has no one heard of disposable insoles? $2.50 a pair, stick 'em in your shoes. Stink and sweaty issues are no longer a problem. After a couple of wears, toss 'em and stick in a new pair.

Socks aside, these two are just delicious.

Blogger D. Debil said ... (9:56 PM) :

The no socks look is good for evening casual, or any casual, but doesn't work at work. Unless you are a lifeguard.

=

Blogger MCCVI said ... (10:14 PM) :

boring. sartorialize them.

Blogger swilek said ... (10:30 PM) :

I just love me the GQ look:)

Blogger Jack Daniel said ... (10:32 PM) :

Hey, i like this picture, Scott.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:46 PM) :

Awww, Damian and Brian. What on earth are they doing?

Blogger Jen Sc said ... (10:50 PM) :

hello, boys.
bonjour, men.
This is disgustingly great.

Blogger Steph said ... (10:58 PM) :

I love this look. The socks with no shoes is very rebellious no? It fits for someone younger though. I think it would be kind of strange to see an older man without knee high socks on.

And I also adore his little backpack. It kind of brings it all back down to earth. Like 'yea I look hot...but I still have life to live.'

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:09 PM) :

Not a fan of either look--suits look cheaply tailored (notice hem is visible esp on light gray suit); though sockless (a mild plus), the shoes themselves leave a lot to be desired... for the light gray guy a nice tan-to-light brown with a touch of orange perforated cap might have done the trick (esp if he wore a nice light blue shirt); on the charcoal gray guy, the boat shoes are awful and don't flow with the suit at all. Also, the barrel cuff cheap-looking white shirts make everything seem very JC Penny. Perhaps the only redeeming feature is the just-perceptible pocket squares.

Not inspiring.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:15 PM) :

hott

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:18 PM) :

Eh- wheres the personality?

Blogger Derek said ... (11:19 PM) :

No Socks! What a great way to go from "any other business man" to "check me out, I'm making a fashion statement."

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:24 PM) :

I call these "The Temptations" suits for the R&B groups back in the 50s and early 60s. Super tailoring on the trousers. I love it, but they gotta put socks or else the whole outfits goes south! Do not try to re-define these suit by excluding socks, cause I already got it in my head how its suppose to go. LOL

Blogger Rhys said ... (11:27 PM) :

Love the blue suit and the way its worn. the loose tie suits the laid back, summery feel of the loafers minus socks. I've always thought a plain white shirt is far too boring to wear open though. needs to be spiced up with a tie/pattern or necklace..

Blogger P. Lee said ... (11:37 PM) :

I would have to change my employer if i go for that sockless look with my suits. I could consider taking them off after work but I don't want put them in one of the pockets of my slim fitted suits...

By the way, is surf-sider coming back for a reason?

Blogger jrunner02 said ... (11:40 PM) :

I dig the look on both guys overall. I think the naked ankle look works too. However, I gotta say I'm not a fan of the pairing of what appears to be black gator-skinned boat shoes with that color suit. Also, his tie, although loosened, looks too worky for me when contrasted with the rubber band on his wrist and the naked ankles. The guy in the gray suit looks perfect.

Blogger homo sapien said ... (12:29 AM) :

the boat shoes work because they have a dark sole. if the soles were white, they would look too informal, almost cartoonish. nice look.

Blogger Jana FitzGerald said ... (1:27 AM) :

more men should not wear socks.

Blogger nyc/caribbean ragazza said ... (1:59 AM) :

I agree with budget chic. I can see Marvin Gaye wearing a suit like this while singing a duet with Tammi Terrell.

Blogger Andy said ... (2:14 AM) :

While their outfits are a bit boring, especially for this venue, I love the look of dress shoes with no socks. Coming from a man with stinky feet-- the secret is those little terry-cloth inserts from Aldo. They're $7 and you can throw them in the washer. If that's not enough, get a regular odor-removing powder.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:29 AM) :

love the suits and the shoes (yep, that boat shoes too)... oh well, must love the looks after all! bravo!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:35 AM) :

I for one love these looks.

And usually the emphasis is on the fit of the jacket but here, the trousers complete the look so well.

And sockless is so much more interesting. It may have side affects but in my opinion its the male version of high heels.

My only complaint would be the cheap backpack.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:40 AM) :

The tie and shoes without socks, the surprising combination!

Blogger VanessaFromMilan said ... (3:05 AM) :

i like them!
elegant!

Blogger Olviya said ... (4:14 AM) :

may be i'm oldtraditions oriented, but i cant accept classical shoes without socks...

Blogger e l l e said ... (6:59 AM) :

Love them.. very dapper!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:32 AM) :

Great photos and blog..loved a lot. keep the photos coming..

Blogger Jorge from W Palm Beach said ... (8:04 AM) :

This is the almost-but-not-quite picture. The men are gorgeous, to be sure. The suits are slim, but not quite: the seams do not go flat. The shoes, without the sans socks discussion, are nice, except for the boating shoes. With a full suit? Not quite. These are fashion editors, and what men's magazine has not advocated to ditch the backpack and get a briefcase? Again, not quite. Wow, early morning bitching! I guess my main beef is that there is nothing in this picture to look forward to, in terms of trying it myself or wanting to see it on other people. The men are gorgeous to be sure, but I think I said that already. Jorge from W Palm Beach

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:28 AM) :

Absolutely NOTHING wrong with a backpack. They are functional and can be perfectly stylish. See last month's issue of GQ for some specifics.
These guys look fine. The suits are snug without being tight. There are small details to personalize the look: open sleeve cuffs, bracelet, unbuttoned 2nd button of shirt, pocket square.
I think these guys achieved the look they were trying to achieve. Good on them.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:08 AM) :

Keep in mind the guy on the left might be wearing no-show socks. I've been wearing those to work and if you find the right pair and color you can't even tell you're wearing them.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:53 AM) :

what is up with the backpack...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:09 AM) :

I wear oxfords without socks every day. I am always amazed by the attention a naked ankle attracts. True, it is uncomfortable, but look at what women endure wearing fashionable shoes.

Blogger Izzy said ... (10:12 AM) :

I love that the guy on the right is wearing topsiders with a suit!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:28 AM) :

While they don't look dressed for a magazine editorial, it's still a whole lot better than 90% of the real guys out there. Plus it's still muggy and hot in NY so that's probably why the suits don't look completely crisp and clean. Everything just kind of works, but the shoes have to go and on with the socks. Going sockless with a suit and tie doesn't sit well with me.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:51 AM) :

these guys are beautiful. love the no socks.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:06 PM) :

Wonderful, everything down to the feet is wonderful. Save for the fact that i'm dying to hand them socks! I just find the bare ankles look to make the entire outsift appear somewhat unfinished.
And an unexpected pop of mustard or crimson or burgandy would be stunning peeping out there!

Blogger Unknown said ... (12:26 PM) :

Loving the sock less ankles!

Blogger Agyesh said ... (1:00 PM) :

oooohhhhhh.... and ya...

no socks only looks like no socks most of the time.. there are little thin sockies that hide under..

more details from the guru himself.. Thom Browne..

Blogger liz song mandell said ... (1:05 PM) :

ah yes...quite GQ.
not sure how much i'm diggin those bare ankles, but the overall look is beautiful.

Blogger Jean said ... (1:25 PM) :

The guy in dark blue looks fantastic. The only thing I'd change: put thick white athletic socks on his feet.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:35 PM) :

MAYBE they are wearing secret socks...

i like it!

Blogger hemoglobin said ... (3:20 PM) :

(maybe they wear tiny lower-than-ankle socks for hygiene sakes ..coz much as i LOVE this look..i'm really wondering HOW do they roam around with squelchy feet)

though to be fair ..it does look rather nice..with the fitted suits et ál ..
sharp
other than the practicality factor..bu then again ..who said anything about fashion being practical..:):) glad the men are discovering it too

Blogger Brian said ... (3:34 PM) :

A great suit without socks is like a a gorgeous house without furniture. The absence of something becomes more important than the existence of something beautiful...

Blogger Oscar Perez said ... (3:55 PM) :

Who cares if they're wearing socks or not? These two outfits were crafted impeccably well, and the sockless loafers and shoes seem to fit in nicely.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:58 PM) :

What can I say when I see two handsome and smartly dressed men, standing in front of me, looking as cool and smooth as ice-cream? Well, I just melt :)

Blogger Unknown said ... (3:59 PM) :

Well, the suits and no socks thing certainly is different.

But, I like it. After all, socks and sperry topsiders? Ick!

Oui! Boys who wear sperry topsiders steal my heart. ♥ ♥

Blogger LRB said ... (4:26 PM) :

I am loving the no socks on guys thing happening.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:53 PM) :

Hmmm.. not a huge fan of the rucksack and suit look personally - a bit too 'MBA' - but the other dude looks cool

Blogger Miguel said ... (7:43 PM) :

Very nice suits, very well dressed but no socks.... also what's with the docker shoes and a suit?

Blogger pearlaceous said ... (9:29 PM) :

Love their pose! I like the shoes of the man to the right.. Perfect for hot weather..

Blogger RM White said ... (9:55 PM) :

Epic. Who wants to lug a hard shell briefcase from the office all the way home? Loving the backpack. We're young, this is supposed to be as much practical as it is fun

Perfect.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:30 PM) :

Max-sleek style, but they need socks! Dark suit's shoes are too casual for me, should be plain oxfords or loafers.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:53 AM) :

way to go damien! here's to my old boss from Details :)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:45 AM) :

If it's any consolation, the one on the left seems to have little footy/ankle socks on! Enlarge the pic and peer below the ankle.

if you so wish.

Blogger Dan in Richmond said ... (9:30 AM) :

Some thoughts inspired by the boating-style shoes: Why, when a man puts on a suit, does (should?) he feel subject to a long list of rules and regulations- the tie must end here, the sleeves be like this, this color sock and this color shoe, etc. I'm sure these rules arose to ensure conformity in a time and place in which conformity was considered desirable. Now we recognize these signs of conformity and approve of them I suppose out of familiarity, and because we can tick off the "rights" and "wrongs". What if you treat your suits like the rest of your wardrobe, as something to wear as you like, with a t shirt or,well, boat shoes or whatever? I don't see any reason to feel constrained by rules except when you choose to follow them.

Blogger Rogério Gonçalves said ... (9:35 AM) :

Great great photo

Blogger Erin Sonoda said ... (1:02 PM) :

their pose! so cute!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:53 PM) :

guys over 17 shouldn't carry backpacks

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:27 PM) :

i love how the man on the right is wearing a backpack, and how they are both without socks.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:45 PM) :

I'm a lawyer in KY & my friends ride me out for wearing slim suits & no socks (They also make fun of my usually short tie), but I still do it on a daily basis...good to know you guys appreciate it at least.

Perhaps I'm lucky, but my feet do not sweat at all throughout the day, regardless of whether I'm out doing things or just in the office.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:23 PM) :

This picture made me realize what it is that bothers me in this sockless suit -look: they look like they spent the night on park bench and someone stole their socks (but curiously, left the suits) and briefcases while they were sleeping. The stubble probably enhances this look.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:57 AM) :

Perhaps if it was Miami and the suits were linen, and the colors of both suit and shoes were white or some kind of pastel...then I'd buy the sockless look. Mostly this feels like mis-executed fashion rebellion.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:31 PM) :

"Suits and no socks? Uh-uh."
Most comments here seem to deal with understatement.
These two conventional boys... Are they, or not?...
Suits, no socks...
"This picture made me realize what it is that bothers me in this sockless suit"...
Hey, puritans, wake up! That's life! Some men don't wear socks! Some... Well... Y'know.

(Among my favourite posts : "Mostly this feels like mis-executed fashion rebellion".
Haha! Bloody Sid Vicious, I presume?).

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:54 PM) :

very nice suits. the pose seems a little much, and i really wish they were wearing socks.

also the man in the darker suit..his shoes.. >.< frown.

Blogger Gabrielle Zuccaro said ... (3:03 PM) :

NY during Fashion Week is the best. And there is nothing like a NY Man in a suit. I am very excited for Next Spring with all the gorgeous prints and fabrics coming out.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:44 AM) :

this comment is a bit delayed but not enough emphasis can be put on the NO SOCKS factor!!! What were they thinking?? ...i guess when you're a hottie you can usually get away with almost anyhting- but no one can do NO SOCKS!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:31 AM) :

Bare feet inside dress shoes will always become sweaty. However, if the shoes are made of quality leather, odor is not a problem. Great look...worth the slight discomfort.

Blogger Dan in Richmond said ... (12:01 AM) :

Let's have a little science lesson here- foot odor (or any other bodily odor) is caused by the gases exuded by bacteria feeding on your dead skin cells. A pedicure now and then and you won't have any foot odor regardless of whether you wear socks or not. It's like magic!

Blogger Marian said ... (8:16 AM) :

Dapper!! I like how its minus socks, very european.
x
Marian

Blogger Unknown said ... (6:12 AM) :

their pose...haha

Blogger PhilM said ... (11:05 AM) :

i've found that the sockless shoe only really works with brown shoes--or at least non-black shoes.

also, the backpack the guy on the left is carrying doesn't work well with his outfit. it just looks sloppy. if you're a guy and you want to wear a backpack with your business suit, your best bet is a leather or nylon (e.g., Coach or Tumi) pack that looks like it's been as finely tailored as your suit. one exception is a canvas backpack, but i have yet to find one whose straps work well--for some odd reason, makers insist on using very stiff canvas straps that are stitched into the bag at an un-ergonomically correct angle, so they just dig into your ribs and armpits. not very comfortable!
