Such an odd mix of twenties and grunge yet it somehow works!

Blogger ediot said ... (5:08 AM) :

cute! such an interesting cute face

Blogger SqRt said ... (6:02 AM) :

She almost appears to be part of the architecture. Planners create space for moments like this! Well captured.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:22 AM) :

sweater and pose makes this completely adorable. a great location for the shot too.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:25 AM) :

I admire this young lady's eye for detail - the way her necklace pics up on her knitted cloche , the ruby red lipstick and the arrangment of her fringe (bangs). Love her skirt, in fact love her whole unique look.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:29 AM) :

Not only are her clothes lovely, but the yellow setting really contrasts with her own colours beautifully. Loverly, Sart! : )

Blogger La Condesa said ... (6:35 AM) :

The girl looks good no doubt, but what is really outstanding here is the composition of the picture
Congratulations!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:42 AM) :

she is lovely. she has such a nice face.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:22 AM) :

she looks cute and real sweet :)

Blogger Jorge from W Palm Beach said ... (7:42 AM) :

Whenever you post someone like this, I always imagine they must be the little people behind the runway that make the magic happen. It looks like she deconstructed the sweater herself, I like how we can see the inside of the construction- it is not just a rip, it is even on both sides. The colors she picked pretty much mimic your man at Prada, below. My favorite piece in this outfit are the punk heels, it looks like she has gotten her money out of them: I always love a well-worn pair of high quality shoes. Jorge from W Palm Beach.

Blogger Regina said ... (8:26 AM) :

Look at those colours!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:33 AM) :

lovely picture!

Blogger stacy said ... (8:34 AM) :

i stole my husband's grey cardigan and have wore it almost everyday for two weeks straight now!

needless to say - i'm picking up what she's laying down.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:38 AM) :

to me, the background seemed to upstaged her.

Even though she looks intriguing, the level of curiosity of her surrounding surpasses her just slightly. the geometric shapes, the color, the confusion on where this was taken.

I understand mrsartorialist had the best intention to use this background for the subject at hand, the model, but I can't change the fact that the flight of stairs and the 4 story building jump at me more.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:47 AM) :

how cute is she? well put together!love the heavy shoe.

Blogger abby said ... (8:58 AM) :

I love the cardigan with the metallic skirt....her feisty red lips add to the overall quirky mystery. beautiful coloring.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:31 AM) :

oh gosh... i love her face, it's so beautiful...
but there's something about the proportions here that don't flatter her. i think the cardigan overwhelms her.
but i love all of the textures and colors...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:38 AM) :

those boots again!! where are they from???

Blogger Theo said ... (9:38 AM) :

ah, this is wonderful. wedges seem to have buckles or something - attitude of boots with class of heels or so i think.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:40 AM) :

Great outfit

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:40 AM) :

This combination of textures is divine.

Blogger InStudio Blog said ... (9:49 AM) :

How to work at the factory and still have style . . . great photo.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:55 AM) :

I'm 100% sure she's an artist - either a designer or a painter or something like that :))) I love the skirt and the make-up!

Blogger meredith said ... (11:18 AM) :

LOVE*
The shape, the colors, the beautifully framed photo: KUDOS.

Blogger cami falcão said ... (11:32 AM) :

i like everything about this look, specially her red lips
awesome pic, congrats

Blogger S (formerly of Modern-Guilt) said ... (11:45 AM) :

beautifully executed outfit, gorgeous shot. The yellow is just WOW.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:51 AM) :

i'm in love, she's beautiful.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:56 AM) :

I love the way she uses contrasts: the delicate necklace vs the chunky shoes, and the shape/texture of the sweater vs the skirt (which I really love). And this is one of the best ways to wear red lipstick: with somber colors and natural eye makeup.

Blogger Cassaundra said ... (12:00 PM) :

i agree, odd mix, but her hair is darling.

Blogger Unknown said ... (12:12 PM) :

Love it! If I were 20 years younger, I would steal this look!

Blogger Unknown said ... (12:44 PM) :

I love her!!! Where can I get her shoes? I love her!!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:01 PM) :

VALERIA!!!! *0*

Blogger La Clocharde said ... (1:07 PM) :

She looks like a modern and super cute pixie!

Blogger fashion blah blah said ... (1:42 PM) :

her name's Valeria and she studied fashion business at the Marangoni school i think...she's a great sense of style.

Blogger Hannah Stephenson said ... (1:48 PM) :

The yellow building behind her is stunning...I love how all the lines in this photo reinforce that she is the center of the image.

She is so quirky and cute.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:37 PM) :

perfect!!!

Blogger Eugene Kim said ... (2:45 PM) :

i met her in tokyo during new years! dang woulda shoulda coulda got her email address...

Blogger Carrie said ... (3:14 PM) :

Love the yellow background and her accent red lipstick. She is adorable!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:20 PM) :

LOVE!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:29 PM) :

Clearly an individual who owns her look and wears it well.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:41 PM) :

One word: WOW!

She is adorable!

Blogger The Spicers said ... (5:13 PM) :

Great photo!
I love the crocheted hat/headband and the webby necklace over her black tee.

Blogger John B Pritchett said ... (5:18 PM) :

This is such a perfect photograph. Not only is the background and lighting great but the subject did a wonderful job styling the outfit. Great boots! If you ever need help in Milan, Sat my man, let me know...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:58 PM) :

the yellow building in the background really makes this shot. i know this isn't a photo blog (per se), but if you put this same woman in front of a brown-brick wall, she'd be just *ok*. in this environment though, she seems to be popping off the screen. only change i might make is to reduce the depth of field by a small amount to make the shape of the background slightly less distinct. it's the colors that really provide the pop, not the details of the shapes, imo.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:18 PM) :

Reminds me a bit of Amelie.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:27 PM) :

Where can I get a hat/headband like that?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:28 PM) :

hellooooooo, jim sturgess

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:43 PM) :

i just died
the color in this is amazing.

Blogger kale daikon said ... (7:20 PM) :

My Valeria!! We shared a summer of French in Paris last year. She is as charming as she looks and cooks the most delicious risotto. But didn't she tell you about the fashion blog she used to co-curate?

Blogger Tsar Kasim said ... (7:47 PM) :

Beautiful picture; I love the use of perspective here.

Blogger Jean said ... (11:10 PM) :

Those shoes are so cute. Someone please say what they are!

Overall, the image put me off at first, mainly because of the baggy cardigan and the head gear. Then it grew on me. Perplexing in a good way.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:30 PM) :

She couldn't look more Marni if she tried.

I envy all the northerners that appear on this blog in skirts and opaque tights and cute, quirky shoes and layered tops... It's my favorite look ever and it's NEVER appropriate in my part of FL. You people with your "four distinct seasons" nonsense! :c

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:02 AM) :

I am in love with those boots.

Blogger Starck Mad said ... (12:34 AM) :

Yet another gorgeous shot. For me, this look goes hand in hand with the best interior design. Similar tones and shades, with the differences being in the textures and surfaces.
A look that gets your attention, without a loud print or color!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:58 AM) :

Lovely, stylish, and charming. Love it!
Beautiful picture...and those shoes!

Please! Anyone? Who makes these lovely shoes??

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:43 AM) :

that sweater is just too big.

Blogger Miguel said ... (9:09 AM) :

So chick and yet so classy. I love it.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:37 AM) :

But the whole look is so messy!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:17 PM) :

What a gorgeous shot!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:41 PM) :

I love this look. By the way, the shoes are Seychelles' Under Construction.

Blogger Unknown said ... (11:45 PM) :

I love the lines and shapes in this shot.

Blogger Mucho Mas Mas said ... (12:25 AM) :

her pose and look initially struck me as very child-like and a bit melancholic, almost naive. yet a greater inspection reveals great sophistication and love for details. love it.

Blogger Mira Vales said ... (8:31 AM) :

Crossbreed between Audrey Hepburn and Giulietta Massina - love her face and like her style;)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:08 PM) :

So very gamine... I love her face.
I think the look is perfect.
I'd wear it in an instant.
The weight of her shoes balances the layering of her sweater, top, and skirt effortlessly.

When people flawlessly compliment their surroundings, there is a moment of perfection in the world.

Thank you so much for this photo!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:36 PM) :

she looks gorgeous....what is she? 5 years old?? her face is childlike and sweet. loves it!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:50 PM) :

beanie hat? check.
lace up boots? check.
a pretty goshdarn cool girl? check.
:)

Blogger sadia said ... (6:29 AM) :

she looks so naturally chic! i love her look!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:57 AM) :

The red lipstick really zings amid all the neutrals, and adds to the 1920s feel. A sweet waif.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:28 AM) :

This is definitely a favourite!
x

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:01 AM) :

of course, this girl would be at marni.

she's the marni girl. i wish i was a marni girl!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:56 PM) :

**HER BOOTS (AS WELL AS THE ONE OF THE TEEN VOGUE EDITORS ARE FROM SEYCHELLES AND ONLY $59 AT CENTURY 21 FOR ALL YOU NEW YORKERS" THEY COME IN BLACK AND BROWN, I OWN THEM BOTH! THEY LOOK FAR MORE EXPENSIVE THAN THEY ACTUALLY ARE!**

GREAT POSE, GREAT CONTAST BETWEEN HER CLOTHERS AND HER BACKGROUND, GREAT SHOT!

Blogger reckless daughter said ... (5:53 PM) :

yep. I've got them too ^ got them a year ago.

they have pretty much sold out everywhere else.

Blogger clareassiral said ... (10:28 PM) :

the muted tones on the outfit looks awesome against the moody yellow background.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:11 AM) :

I agree that she's dressed perfect for the surroundings. But what I really love is her meshy hat w/ her meshy necklace...and the silver fingernails are so key.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:18 PM) :

ironically, i found these amazing boots at Century 21 the day BEFORE this post went up and now i feel like a genius. best $59 i ever spent. i only wish i had purchased a second pair as backup...but sadly i imagine that they're all gone since so many new yorkers do a daily sart check!

Blogger Clara said ... (8:49 AM) :

this girl works grunge and still stays undeniably feminine. love it.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:07 AM) :

she looks like a chanel girl on her day off, grunge meets indie

Blogger Marian said ... (8:10 AM) :

She is doing grunge but in such a gamine way! Somehow her style looks so natural against her features.
Love it.

Blogger nidyawiguno said ... (5:10 AM) :

isn't she lovely? nice style :)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:22 AM) :

Vale!! just lovely

Blogger Unknown said ... (9:40 AM) :

Doll !

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:19 AM) :

I have that exact necklace! A well meaning visiting Italian relative gave it to me years ago, and I've never really got any wear out of it (whilst simultaneously feeling guilty about not wearing it as it's white gold). Design solution! Heart.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:42 AM) :

I love everything about this shot ! especially her red lips gives her look something more.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:06 PM) :

I love her. Whoever she is, she is so far beyond.... very smart, very mysterious, very "works" her look and yet a little unmindful of it. Every piece she has on is meant to have a reference and some people who don't think postmodernist might fall into the trap of taking everything for its connotation, as if she's being ironic, but the sharp mind sees her clothes for what they are sans their history. She's not costuming.
