Loved it. Glad you decided not to post the image of the guy with the ankle socks and dress shoes- that will NOT be a trend, I assure you. Let's see who in the fast fashion world starts cranking out PJs as day wear. Jorge from W Palm Beach

Sart, I adore you. Your perspective on fashion is brilliant. But baby, you've gotta work on your posture! You were so slouchy I almost lost you in that chair.

Sit up and try to exude a little more power when you're on camera. I know it seems naggy, and I don't mean to criticize you. But I believe strongly that posture has as much to do with your look as what you're wearing. It gives you a real presence that people will take notice of.

Great segment!

Blogger The Sartorialist said ... (8:56 AM) :

dexter,
thanks for the tip but to be honest to do what i do i don't really want people to notice me.

i have to walk up to strangers and ask to take their photo - i think if i would exert too much power it would get in the way - i purposely try to be very gentle and calm when working on the street and a big part of that is body language -especially when working with women. I think it is powerful to be able to make others comfortable quickly.

besides those stools were a pain and I asked if we could do it at a desk - maybe next time, if there is a next time.

Blogger xxx said ... (9:09 AM) :

great interview. interesting choices. but the cameraman took such strange angles. i think the pose comment must be related to this awkward angles chosen for the interview. a desk or a sleek armchair might improve the feeling of stiffness -of three in a row. also better light to avoid the general yellowishness would be great.

(thanks for the short socks tip. it adds something to it).

Blogger Caro said ... (9:11 AM) :

I loved that! Everyone looked chic and comfortable. The editing on the video was great--just the right length, nice cutting with video and images from shows/the street. Well, actually, I could've watched 30 minutes of that.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:49 AM) :

I loved the whole thing. I'm actually glad you guys weren't behind a desk. I got to see what the fashion critics were wearing. Some of that was pretty funny too.

Blogger ladyfresh said ... (9:54 AM) :

*thumbs up* Mr Sartorialist

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:27 AM) :

It was interesting to watch three men talking about fashion...i really liked it. But i think you forgot to talk about the DRIES VAN NOTEN and the MARTIN MARGIELA summer collections...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:38 AM) :

Loved the big hugs at the end. Your awesome Sart!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:04 AM) :

a title like "in the closet" isn't really doing much for preconceived notions of men's fashion!!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:26 PM) :

Good hug in the end!

Blogger junglesiren said ... (12:27 PM) :

"Fashion Closet"?.... I won't touch that one.

I'm in agreement with your Lanvin choice. Elbaz rocks. He's one of my favorites all around - men, women, fall, spring - He does it right.

Twin sets on men? EEEYikes! Pajamas? And that neon!... Somebody call in the exorcist!

You are a sexy thing, Scott. You really come across as unassuming and thoughtful and masculine and of course stylish.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:45 PM) :

You are a beautiful man.

Blogger bomb.ass.ting said ... (1:27 PM) :

Twin sets on men are fine, after all it's just being matchy matchy and there's no harm in that! :) Love your style Sart, you're totally not intimidating though - I kind of thought you would be!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:04 PM) :

Bravo! (clap clap clap) Good job! You looked great and you're very well-spoken. Good wardrobe choice, too - navy is great on you!

Yeah, next time, ditch the stools. They're very awkward...sorta like suits that look like pajamas.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:34 PM) :

This is really charming, actually, because--no offense--you guys are all guys' guys, manly men, erring a bit conservative in your fashion choices and on-screen personalities but still obviously caring very much about what happens on and off the runway.

I LIKE the pajamas! They remind me of my boyfriend when he's walking around in the morning wiht his shirt on. Sexy.

Thanks for sharing!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:22 PM) :

Yay, Sart!! I'm very happy for you.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:44 PM) :

Great spot, good to hear your voice and opinion on mens wear. I think we get too many sound bites from women, which is good, but it's also great to get a solid point of view from a Man! Thanks Sart.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:52 PM) :

Transcript, please! :3 Some of the brand names were hard to understand... ^^;

Blogger STYLE DU MONDE said ... (5:04 PM) :

Such a cool video! Thank you for posting this!

Love your outfit! It suits you perfectly!!! Would be great if we could see more videos and shots with you.

xx

Blogger Dan in Richmond said ... (5:06 PM) :

Nice to see what you look like on screen and hear your voice. You come across very well and the spot was really charming and often funny.
I hope Jorje is right about ankle socks and dress shoes not being the next trend, but I have to agree with you that that particular guy had it working- amazing.
Thanks for posting this.
Dan

i LOVE the idea of men in twin sets! too chic for words

Blogger Paul Pincus said ... (6:45 PM) :

i loved this. so much fun!

Blogger Charlé said ... (7:29 PM) :

I just wanted to thank you. I'm female and impressed male friend today when I remarked on the impeccable tailoring of another gentleman's suit. He was really surprised that I noticed something beyond his tie/color choice.

I've refined my taste and developed a bit of an obsession with menswear because you made it relevant to me, someone who otherwise only cared about womenswear. Thanks.

Blogger melissa said ... (7:53 PM) :

sadly, i too noticed the posture first and foremost...massage and yoga!

Blogger designerman said ... (8:31 PM) :

That was great. Nice chemistry between you 3. And I loved, LOVED Lanvin.

Blogger Scott W said ... (9:44 PM) :

It was great to see you on camera and hear your voice. You and Josh have both fallen prey to the overuse of 'like'. Just sayin'.

Thanks for bringing us such great photos and style.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:21 AM) :

You're all so charming and wonderful! I loved the interview, it was sweet and simple. And I absolutely love your taste, Sart! Lanvin is one of my favorite lines out there right now. I truly admire you. I mean, to be able to go up to people and ask them if their pictures can be taken takes a lot of courage and people skills. You're my hero!

Blogger Miguel said ... (3:48 AM) :

great video! love the pics from the runway, but the best... the guy in black tie, black jacket and great tight pant... looks like just come out from work, and sharp and great looking... how do you find these people on the streets?

Blogger Miguel said ... (3:54 AM) :

could you post the picture of that guy in a suit and tie and his helmet... I will love to copy that look... love the video... and yeah! blue is your color

Blogger chat said ... (4:05 AM) :

I just love menswear in general. It always inspired me because most menswear is very functional vs. just frills, bells and whistles. Also the models tend to be v.hot.

On another note.. Mr. Sart please try to find those ped socks because sockless did not go so well with the exposed calves. As a calve-y girl myself I know how tricky it can be with the cut-off pants and looking stumpy. I think the socklessness and the awkward distance between the shoes and the hem of the pants was not flattering (especially from the cross-legged position). Just my two cents!

Blogger Aya Amurjuev said ... (12:49 PM) :

dearest sart, you are indeed a big deal. what a pleasure it was to finally "see" you in action! great job and keep it up! :D

Blogger Keisha Kornbread said ... (1:29 PM) :

Sart is ADORABLE!!!

Blogger gabrielazeanadal@hotmail.com said ... (4:13 PM) :

You huggy bear! Lol! Cool video!

Blogger Jessica said ... (5:48 PM) :

I know dexter said it, above, and you have a good reason to be humble - in body - on the street, but he's right. Your posture made you look a little dumpy! And you aren't! At all!

For all of your care in noticing how people wear clothes, and thinking about what would and would not work on you, you also have to think a little about giving the clothes their due by sitting up straight! Especially in a crappy litle stool like that one.

You are a very good looking man. Own it, at least for the camera.

Blogger Fashion Tidbits said ... (11:59 AM) :

very informative video, thanks for sharing with us

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:41 PM) :

the gentleman in the plaid shirt mentions a label before raf simons, it sounds like he's saying 'togar'. can anyone clarify this?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:43 AM) :

Sart,
I adore your website, but I've got to chime in with a point about the posture discussion. I can totally understand that in your work you don't want to come off as aggressive, and that softening your shoulders may help with that. Remember though your setting. A televised interview is not the street and you are not working as a photographer in that moment but as a fashion commentator.

I'm a teacher and there is body language that I use as a teacher that I try really hard to not to allow to cross into my real life. Similarly, I do a lot of ballroom dancing and there is LOT of stuff I do with my posture in dancing that would look absurd anywhere else.

I know that the 'computer crouch' can get to all of us, but really, as my grandmother would say, sit up straight and smile! ; ) What you're saying is so interesting that it's a shame your posture distracts from that.

Just a thought or two!

-LM

You are so cute, haha, those hugs at the end. You're obviously 'very comfortable with your masculinity' ;-)

Blogger The Sartorialist said ... (9:26 AM) :

for leon
we filmed about four endings, trying to find a funny way out. i did the hugs as a goof - we were surprised they kept that one.

i still thought it was pretty funny

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:25 AM) :

I agree with the posture comment. Maybe you don't want to come off arrogant or unapprocable so without knowing it, your body tries to make people feel comfortable. But you're the king of fashion. No matter what you say or do, you will always be the king. Designers, models and the everyday alike, look to you for style inspiration. There is nothing you can do about it. You're simply the best. Sit and stand tall because EVERYONE, yes everyone looks up to you.

Blogger muranogirl said ... (3:56 PM) :

Hands down Sart, you are a babe!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:53 AM) :

I can def. see the small sock sensation popping up here in London....men and boys are really into jewel coloured lightweight socks with suits during office hours and ankle skimming summer trousers in down time....it wont take too long before the sock is ankle skimming too!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:40 AM) :

Sart's is a free blog and i can't get this kind of quality content anywhere else. i wouldn't publically criticize the author/artist no matter how much i love him (and I do!). Criticism is a private thing, especially when you're a guest.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:21 PM) :

your very good at expressing yourself; i enjoyed hearing you give your opinions!
