Back in the NYC!

Comments on "Back in the NYC!"

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:28 AM) :

seen this look head to toe, in California since 2005... nice though

Blogger Sunglasses Guy said ... (9:29 AM) :

It's almost as though he planned the hat, skateboard and bag.

Fantastic look.

Blogger Anne Watkins said ... (9:35 AM) :

This is a perfect welcome back shot. Why we love this town- the Great Meeting Ground.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:36 AM) :

Great bag, love the combination of scater and glam.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:46 AM) :

i love this image, but from my own experience (i am not saying that can't do it) it is almost impossible to skateboard on sandals, really painful as well if you want to do tricks, but anyway he's adorable

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:46 AM) :

Must be hard to skate with those sandals

Blogger porter hovey said ... (9:48 AM) :

I feel like he should be staring in a Spike Lee film! Classic.

Blogger The Sartorialist said ... (9:49 AM) :

he was holding his sons skateboard

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:50 AM) :

Verrry stylin'. Welcome back, Scott!

p.s. maybe he has kicks (for the board) in the glam-bag. Just a thought.

Blogger Dan in Richmond said ... (10:18 AM) :

This may be "just" a person on the street, right? There's no point in analyzing it in terms of fashion although he obviously isn't oblivious to it, or at least to style- he's trying to look good and he does.

Blogger Jorge from W Palm Beach said ... (10:30 AM) :

It is a good look for him, being fit and slim. The gold bag and the shades certainly reinforce the fact that he is going for style, not just clothes thrown together. I like the double wallet chains, (especially since you can get some of those at your hardware store!), and the leather wristband. I think the armholes of the tank are rather on the large side; I like more the muscle-t cut, but to each his own. Jorge from W Palm Beach

Blogger Stephanie said ... (10:54 AM) :

I love love love that hat!

Blogger Unknown said ... (10:58 AM) :

Nothing he has is individually impressive, but he does accessorize well. His whole outfit is rich and full as a result. Instead of relying on a single gimmick, it is a complete outfit. Not my look, personally, but the idea is the right one.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:58 AM) :

Ah, Basquiat is alive and well!
Very nice shot, love the 'rude boy' expression!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:04 AM) :

Really? Stylish? Am I missing something? I think he looks like a mess. Well, maybe not a mess but certainly not stylish or classic.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:10 AM) :

Yes for New York. I love everywhere you shoot. But I confess I feel the Ny spirit more than any. Its not always a class attack of designers and suits. New York is everyone.

Blogger momo said ... (11:27 AM) :

Oh, yeah! It's all about the look and the tilt of the hat.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:29 AM) :

Oh, man! That's cutting it too close, if you know what I mean.

Blogger Serg Riva said ... (12:00 PM) :

To hold a skateboard as one would once a boom-box; who doesn't like the cars, the cars that go boom?

Blogger Jessica said ... (12:03 PM) :

You make everyone look like they just stepped out of a magazine!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:09 PM) :

Your subject has the moxie, but without the pose his appeal is hosed. Would loved to seen him with his son.

Blogger Observer said ... (12:24 PM) :

An excellent example of how looking good has nothing to do with wearing expensive stuff.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:31 PM) :

the gold bag and the sunglasses make the look for me.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:49 PM) :

Another accessory pile-on. But that said, the proportions and colors on him are gorgeous. He looks like a cool breeze off the ocean.

Blogger Karen said ... (12:58 PM) :

Am I missing something that others are seeing? I'm not spotting anything particularly stylish here. Just a guy schlepping around in a tank and cutoff jeans.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:07 PM) :

It's "The Attitude" that makes this work.

Blogger Rich said ... (1:35 PM) :

Thanks, Sart! Finally someone dressed for really hot weather.

To me, it's all about the length of the jeans, the hat, the wristbands. Wish we could see the sandals up close.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:55 PM) :

in two years, are you going to
photograph him wearing a goofy suit
and proclaim your influance?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:17 PM) :

A skateboard is not an accessory.

Blogger LRB said ... (3:37 PM) :

I love it - it's fit to be an NYC postcard.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:31 PM) :

I really think that the hat makes this outfit! It's just unusual enough to make the outfit stand out.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:55 PM) :

I WANT THAT GOLD BAG!!!

Blogger O!Lightning said ... (5:37 PM) :

CLASSIC PRICELESS NYC!!!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:50 PM) :

God, sometimes NYC is so annoying

RJT

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:17 PM) :

Love the hat. Not so sure about the bag though...

Blogger emily said ... (7:14 PM) :

i wish i was in nyc right now!

Blogger MARIA H said ... (8:17 PM) :

No movie here! this is it: NYC baby.

Blogger junglesiren said ... (10:13 PM) :

What's especially nice is the fact that this dude has got full-blown personal style. Nothing he has on is particularly exciting on it's own (the hat is excellent and I don't care for the bag but it is unusual) but the way he puts them together is ultra cool and it looks effortless.

He would fit right in with the crew of black surfers in Venice.

And I love his cut-through-the-bullshit stare.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:50 PM) :

For those of you who don't see the style in this, let me tell you what I see that makes me regard this guy as stylish: the roll brim of the hat and its jaunty angle; the shape of the sunnies; the necklace the sunnies are hanging from; the double strap wrist band; the yellow ring; the double wallet chain (each different); the gold lame bag (perfect!) all accessorizing what is basically cut-offs and a tank top. That's great personal style to me: not expensive, not trendy, not obvious, not forced, not overwrought. The skateboard and the kerchief (kid's shirt?) that is hanging out of his right pocket are bonus extras. The stare is the capper.

You still may not agree that he is stylish (chacun a son gout), but that's what I see when I look at this pic.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:41 AM) :

hat throws it off a little. nonetheless, the gold bag is a great touch with the bright blue and the skateboard. i also like the hoboish sandals.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:53 AM) :

He looks amazing! I'm loving the way he accessorized his outfit...the 'bracelet', the ring, the bag, the scarf thingie in his pocket, the hat and the necklace. This guy is Eddy Grant, a random surfer dude out of California, Basquiat(like another above poster mentioned), Caribbean rude bwoi all rolled in one. Rockin' photo, Scott. :]

Blogger dwashington314@gmail.com said ... (7:05 PM) :

I agree, very Basquiat!

Serge! Love the reference!

WE LIKE THE CARS THE CARS THAT GO BOOM!

Blogger jessica said ... (10:34 AM) :

thank god! i've been missing your coverage of really casual summer looks....

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:58 PM) :

I love me in this pic ...I'm very simple and i Love colors without a particular match just texture is all i need Thanks for comments folks!...LOL

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:05 PM) :

To me, simply put...this picture is a great pairing of different shades of blue and yellow/gold. From the chains and his bag, to the straw colour of his hat, matched with that bright top and jeans. The red scarf in his pocket adds that hit of red.

Looking at this guy makes me want to sit outside, even on the hottest smoggiest day, put on some tunes and have a nice long cool drink! This picture just says "summer in the city". I love it.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:15 PM) :

I really wish the skateboard was something else; like a canvas or actually a boombox. Skateboarding has such a rigorous authenticity, especially in New York, and in the picture it seems like a gimic; rather than contributing to the synergy of the outfit it severely attenuates its credibility.

As a portrait and outfit it works, now that I know the back story it works but I really wish you could have expressed this in pictures without back story.

Great blog though, I love it!

Anonymous Dezaray said ... (10:50 AM) :

Its take a true sense of style to look like you put no thought into an outfit. He executes this flawlessly.....plus, he looks like someone you want to hang out with!

Blogger Frankinsense said ... (8:56 AM) :

LOVE THIS LOOK!!!! Excellent.
