Great photos!

Thank you for posting a woman of color in this collection! She's young, fun, chic and very representative of how the jazz age would look in modern new york. (also, I don't know why but every time I see saddle shoes, I think of Lucy Van Pelt from the Peanuts)

Her dress is lovely! I'd kill for one.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:35 AM) :

I just love how natural she looks. That cute wiggle dress paired with the old-fashioned shoes is just so perfect! Love the combo of argyle and subtle plaid on her friend, too.

These wonderful photos make me want to host my own "Jazz" party! ^^ Thanks for the inspiration, Sart!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:19 PM) :

Love the energy they both exude. The dress complements her boyish shape very well; this is the first time in a long time I've seen saddle shoes worn beautifully in an un-ironic way.
The young man really knows his period dress too! Great captures.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:00 AM) :

What I love the most: her calves! She has the gorgeous physique of a bicyclist! Her vivacity is a close second...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:00 AM) :

Brilliant! Fantastic shot and style!

Blogger _ said ... (2:20 AM) :

what these photos don't depict is how sweltering hot the day was. and the lack of ice cream in the treats truck.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:21 AM) :

Hey Mr. S,
you don't happen to have any more photos of the gentleman in this picture do you? I was specifically hoping for one of his neck tie - looks intruiging.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:21 AM) :

Trust me to love the barely visible part of the photo- but i love the girl's dress that's hiding on the left! flapper dresses are so sweet with their neutral colours and drop waists

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:40 AM) :

scott ,you've so inspired me by posting your Jazz age pictures . im hoping some fashion designers will get inspired too for SS 09.
thank you

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:49 AM) :

i love what the man is wearing, but to be honest i don't like what the woman is wearing at all (for a 20s jazz festival anyway).

i dont understand how her look could be relatable to the roaring 20s at all, even as a "modern" version. she does have a great energy, im just not sold on her outfit.

Blogger 816417 said ... (4:43 AM) :

Wonderful photos! I especially love the man's argyle socks.

Blogger Post-it boy said ... (5:54 AM) :

Can I go and live there and drink iced tea all day? Love it.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:55 AM) :

This girl is stunning, seriously, great face-great style.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:56 AM) :

Oooooolé!

Blogger Ruby Hoppen said ... (6:25 AM) :

She's so lovely and full of life! I love those shoes they look amazing.

Blogger beautylogicblog said ... (6:56 AM) :

that dress is fantastic

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:19 AM) :

I think the only woman in history that would have worn that outfit is Olive Oil!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:25 AM) :

Sart - you've captured the atmosphere so well - LOVE the dance photos, LOVE the dancing shoes! The girl in blue and white looks great, the simplicity of her outfit would have really shown off her dance moves. Must have been a great party!

Blogger Baking With Plath said ... (10:24 AM) :

Wonderful photos...great energy!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:26 PM) :

I was at this event on Sunday, and my friends and I spent the whole time staring enviously at this group. The outfits, the togetherness, the sense of fun--it was dazzling. Now I just need to know where to get vintage 20s clothing (without breaking the bank)!

Blogger RivkaL said ... (2:34 PM) :

beautiful! the shoes set off the dress perfectly

Blogger Nadine said ... (5:22 PM) :

I love these so much!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:22 PM) :

Where can you find those long argyle socks ?
James

Blogger College Scribe said ... (12:24 AM) :

I am curious as to where the gentleman bought his plaid pants, I have been wanting a pair for quite some time.

Blogger Lizzie said ... (10:21 AM) :

saddle oxfords rule! They remind me of my Catholic school days!

Blogger Lucy Jane said ... (6:43 PM) :

i need that girl's shoes.
anyone have any idea where i could get some? I've been looking for ages.

Blogger Lizzie said ... (11:03 PM) :

Seriously, look at uniform supply stores. Any retailers that sell school uniforms...you'll find some saddle oxfords...

Blogger dnqcnn said ... (11:27 AM) :

Ooh god this is amazing!! The shoes... jealousy runs through my veins... darn!

Blogger Unknown said ... (12:20 PM) :

could she be any cuter?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:29 AM) :

The thing that makes her outfit even more awesome is the mix of fun, fashion, and most importantly, functionality! When I started swing dancing, it became a challenge to find clothes that were not only cute, but would still look good after exercising hard in them for a couple of hours. And then you add the special dancing shoes to the mix and... it gets very interesting. Guys get off a little easier (it looks like this guy's wearing his white Arris Allens, a classic swing dancer guy shoe), but ladies shoes can be more of a challenge to coordinate, especially since a lot of swing dancers can only afford one or maybe two pairs of dancing shoes. Consequently, it's very common to see ladies wearing very odd shoe/clothing combinations. You could wear other shoes, but often your legs hurt so badly afterwards it isn't worth it. It adds a whole 'nother layer of complexity, which makes this combination even more of a smashing success.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:37 AM) :

hi c!! so nice to find you here :)

Blogger PhilM said ... (12:12 AM) :

i just love this lady. she's so adorable! and her dress is really cute, too. what's that on her head?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:51 PM) :

You really capture the energy of the people in these two shots. They literally jump off the page. Well done.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:50 PM) :

olive oil lives!

Blogger I'm Sam. said ... (10:30 AM) :

does anyone know anything about that dress?
i simply MUST have one!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:38 PM) :

Is it impolite to be delighted by how curvey she looks from behind in this dress? From the front, the dress seems child-like, but when you are able to see her profile, it's very flattering and feminine shape.
Lovely photos.

To the person asking about the shoes:

these are the best I can find online. http://www.tictactoes.com/dance/lindy.htm

For vintage reproductions, try unique-vintage.com. It's a pretty comprehensive site that has many dresses for (relatively) cheap.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:45 AM) :

The socks, plaid, and natural blends of clothes are exciting. I just think it is a great pic.

Blogger sesim said ... (2:16 PM) :

these shoes are the exact same shoes that I had bought online last month.. they are very comfortable and plus extremely cheap.
