Can someone explain the French (or Parisian?) preference for somber colors? It always surprises me that chic so often means svelte, black, unobtrusive.

I don't mean any criticism, just curious. Is this a northern thing? A fusty relic of existentialisme? Do things differ on the Côte d'Azur?

No, it doesn't generally differ on the Cote d'azur (unless you consider white a departure from monochromatic dressing) because the chic there are all drawing their influences from the chic in Paris. Obviously, there are a few exceptions to this rule, but I always laugh when I see a french fashion mag talking about neon brights for spring/summer and I think...yeah right. Perso, I love the somber colors of French chic however. This guy has it figured out!

Very cool guy. Just the right details. I can tell style and dressing are a natural part of this guys life. I'm sure he effortlessly moves in and out of some pretty cool looks on a daily basis. Just a guess.

mr. tonchi always looks parfait!!! the perfect example of what a man should wear.
I like how everything is very subtly chic... his clothing, his hair, the karl lagerfeld invitation, the eiffel tour, everything, without being ostentatious.
Love this! Love it! Perfectly fitted, crisp shoulders, with just the hint of a thicker scarf to shake things up a bit. Perfect bit of white cuff peeking out. Classic!
sart, i'm also interested in knowing if the image is reversed, and/or seeing a blow-up of the card in his hand..
as for the fashion, i love how his pocket square is (almost) the same color as his coat, so you might not even notice it if it wasn't for the pattern

I like the suit and the haircut, but the scarf does not do it for me. I don't know why, but I find this method of knotting a scarf creates a look that is unattractive and distracting.
