It's Lou DOILLON Scott.

Jane Birkin' daughter.

xoxo

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:37 AM) :

Love charlotte gainsbourg's sister ( it is spelled LOU DOILLON)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:41 AM) :

great picture and great look for Miss DOillon, as always...

Blogger stacy said ... (8:48 AM) :

Love how all those bits of different colours come together so well on her tiny little body.

Beautiful smile.

Blogger Pelayo said ... (8:52 AM) :

she rocks

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:55 AM) :

Look at that hatchet!! I love these looks because they remind me that I don't have to be rich to have style. Great Pic, I love all the colors and naturalness!

Blogger Carolina Lange said ... (8:57 AM) :

She has such a cool style! Very nice photo!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:00 AM) :

it's Doillon, not Di... One of Jane Birkin's daughters

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:00 AM) :

She is great, and she has an amazing sense of style !
(but just to let you know, her last name is DOillon and not Dillon.. sorry...)
xx

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:04 AM) :

If there ever was a girl who had 'du chien'....

Blogger Laguna Beach Fogey said ... (9:07 AM) :

What the deuce?! No, no, no. This just isn't working, Sart. This is an example of why I detest French style, in general. Please, give us more Brits and Italians.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:08 AM) :

Fantastic! Quirky, expressive, colorful, jaunty--and I'm guessing she pulled it off very inexpensively. It is a delight to see someone create so much with next to nothing.

Blogger K-Y-M said ... (9:10 AM) :

I just discovered your blog and I love it. Your photographs are great, which is gratifying compared to many other.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:32 AM) :

Fabulous! One of my favorite parts is that green coat she's holding!

Blogger Barbara said ... (9:44 AM) :

Love the suspenders. The color pops against that brown. She has been in a lot of Elle editorial spreads. What does she do? An actress, right?

Blogger Jessica Ferri said ... (9:45 AM) :

lovely, lovely, lovely

Blogger whyioughtta said ... (9:49 AM) :

Hahaha...the comments on the spelling of her name are hilarious. I'm sure you'll never make THAT typo again.

She has definitely always got great style, but...please, mommy, make the bad 80s go away. The hat? Not loving. The Mork & Mindy suspenders? Non.

I do love the green coat, though. And the cardi's cool too.

Blogger Unknown said ... (10:10 AM) :

Yes! (Your photos have really been exceptionally inspirational lately, btw.)

Blogger Emma said ... (10:34 AM) :

do any of you read the comments before posting? then maybe there wouldn't be a million posts that say the same thing.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:46 AM) :

How Fabulous!! Love, love, love your blog and everything fashion. Keep it coming please!!

Blogger Alice said ... (10:50 AM) :

fantastic, effortless style. i love those suspenders.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:06 AM) :

Sorry. I guess I'm only of the few who does not think this woman has a lot of style. I've seen photos of her in so many magazines and always think if only she has brushed her hair back - tucked it up or twisted it or *something* - she would look so much better. I don't understand the sloppy layers when she could look sssoooooo fantastic (must have the greatest designer wardrobe in her closet) if she just perfected it a bit.

I guess I'm just more old school and think of truly beautiful and fashionable women - think Audrey and Grace - when hair was well styled, dresses were lovely and accessories were matching. Now we get the crawled out of bed look from women who have the resources to do better. If this is one of today's most fashionable - well, we are in trouble.

Someone explain this phenomena to me please.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:24 AM) :

nice to see something this quirky and cute among the sea of black clothings...great mix and matching techniques as well. This look may not work for anyone, but I think it works for her.

and emma, I think the comments come out in blocks..so some commenters may not have seen the comments right before them. So relax. :)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:25 AM) :

wow, this one was really a great one. pretty girl, gorgeous clothes :)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:26 AM) :

Dig the hat, but not crazy about the suspenders with jeans. Coat rocks though. To each her own...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:43 AM) :

Rare to see color in Paris that isn't worn by a tourist. Not my style but she always looks great.
Bravo.

Blogger Kit said ... (11:53 AM) :

Effortless quirky style. I think she carries it off without seeming too studied-hipster through the force of her personality (and being super lean).

I like the colour combination of the braces, cardigan and coat. I'm really not a fan of pale blue 80s denim like that but she makes it work. I wonder what the shoes were?

Lou gave a great tip in a magazine last year: she stretches the necklines of her T-shirts to snap the thread and create that nice loose effect. It's a small detail but it makes a big difference - you can see she's done it in this picture.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:56 AM) :

Very gamin.

Blogger Miss Cavendish said ... (12:06 PM) :

Kind of schkanky street style. But seriously, how many women could pull this off? It's a rare bird who would be considered stylish in this. I think Stacy and Clinton would be having palpitations if one of their "what not to wear" clients turned up in this. And they'd be right!

Blogger reverend dick said ... (12:49 PM) :

"Whoa! Is that a clip on you're wearing?" No clip ons. To go to the effort of putting on something elective, yet not to "bother" with the real thing...well, it's dumbed down and in poor taste. If she desperately needed to hold her trousers up, mmmaybe. As an accent, non.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:49 PM) :

Some people's idea of elegance are straight from 50's upper class.

Lou Doillon is gorgeous, she she a terrific dresser, a true women of our time.

Blogger Vistiendo a Candela said ... (1:01 PM) :

She is telling us a lot with her eyes.

Blogger Anne Corrons said ... (1:58 PM) :

I have already seen this picture on a French blog, but no matters, Lou is always a real fashion woman!

Blogger standing there as big as life said ... (2:01 PM) :

Blogger Elizabeth said ... (2:15 PM) :

She's been fabulous for a long time. I wish we could see more of that green houndstooth coat!

Blogger Angela Adriano said ... (2:37 PM) :

While I really and utterly appreciate well manicured and put together outfits with excellent colour palettes, this combo is so refreshing- I love it! Well done, Sart!! I love how you identify the truly amazing in different genres.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:45 PM) :

I don't see anything in her.. I love Charlotte Gainsbourg though....the latter is talented the first...not, she's just another junky who was lucky enough to be the daughter of a director and Jane birkin.... has the picture been taken for her style or because it is Lou Doillon ?

Blogger AdamfromVA said ... (3:15 PM) :

seriously? tighten up sat, she looks ridiculous for the sake of looking ridiculous

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:00 PM) :

i just saw her over at café mode a few days ago,
in the same outfit.
this shot shows her whole look better - so cute!

Blogger NYSFgirl said ... (4:13 PM) :

Mostly adorable in that hipster mish-mash way. Personally, I'd never rock suspenders like that, but I can't think of what else she could've worked with this outfit to achieve the same amount of "pop".

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:16 PM) :

Lovin' it! But Lou Doillon has style in her veins, whether she be dressed to the nines in Balenciaga or doing more casual chic like this. Love the suspenders and the big buttons and that french way of tucking the hair up into a cap. For some reason she looks far prettier like this than in some of the papped red carpet shots. Some people are born with it....
thanks sart, this really made me smile!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:27 PM) :

I disagree with some; the suspenders are the crowning glory of this outfit! I'm a big fan of suspenders myself, on women, men, what have you. The hat is also great, and the mixture of colors that are still somehow compatible is excellent and in very good taste.

Blogger ellastica said ... (5:23 PM) :

i do admire lou for her willingness to experiment but somehow she never quite pulls it off for me.

hands down her half-sister charlotte has better style. photograph her if you ever get the chance!!!

the college hipster thing is so cliched and over-done. lou does dress-up, couture way better than casual, everyday stuff.

Blogger The Velvet Scientist said ... (5:34 PM) :

She is so adorable!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:45 PM) :

She's awesome. Saucy gal. Worldy too, no doubt. I wouldn't mind being her pet project for a while, by gum.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:59 PM) :

i started checking this blog because they didn't all look like models. has the blog changed, or am i more discerning?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:14 PM) :

beautiful lou!!

Blogger Cassaundra said ... (6:21 PM) :

she's lovely - and her jacket is fantastic.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:45 PM) :

Saucy yes, stylish not... sorry she has put too much marmalade on the toast perhaps one element too many. She has the right intention and a very attractive face but unlike her sister she lacks elegance and simplicity. Her outfit seems forced . The "just woke up" effect is lost in to "just don't know".

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:57 PM) :

The hat, the cardigan, the buttons on the cardigan, the coat, the gold cain, the suspenders, and the grey background, the sticky hair... do not miss the handbag! she really needs someone to edit her young fashion, then again youth is about that excess, in my mind over accessorizing is a bad habit.
Nan Kempner said " I put it all on, then take some things out and I am perfect"

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:05 PM) :

She's gorgeous & I just love her style.. Guess it's in the genes;)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:42 PM) :

The recent issue of Paris Vogue, guest edited by CG, describes LD's style carefully. I love the sweater here. Hot drink, fire, feet under dog, heaven.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:57 PM) :

Unfortunately whenever I see this young lady, all I can think about is how Charlotte Gainsbourg just absolutely trumps her in natural beauty.
Anyway, her outfit is cute, I suppose, but I wish she would just crack a proper smile. Show off your mother's teeth, Lou! They're strangely endearing.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:55 PM) :

What is wrong with a style that is "forced" as long as it works? I am a bit sick of the "effortless", "simplicity" argument.

And anon 11:06, time moves on, that's why we have different styles now. We all should be more open to accept different styles, not just got stuck in one generation.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:30 PM) :

she rocks, as well as her mom & sister. beautiful ladies.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:44 PM) :

2:45 PM...Lou's a pretty talented actress, IMHO. As for the junky part, if you don't like her style...fine, but lay off comments like that. Unnecessary.

I'm trying to picture Lou doing a Jackie O or Grace Kelly style even for laughs. Nah...can't see it.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:12 PM) :

Some of the designs are excellent. Kudos on the good work to highlight some of the works. I also loved Lou Doillon.

Blogger rebeccacalvetti said ... (11:15 PM) :

I love Lou's sense of style.

Prefer it even to her sister's.

Blogger alexpolina said ... (11:41 PM) :

she never looks like she tries hard.she is carefree looking ,youthful and naturally well dressed.I don't think she is concerned with how stylish her outfit is to other people. She dictates but doesn't copy that is the difference.tmrw someone will wear something inspired by this.

Blogger Anastasia said ... (12:44 AM) :

i love her mishmash style...her sister Charlotte is FAB too...both are style icons for me!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:04 AM) :

There's my girl! Her look is never forced. Bravo!

Blogger gabrielazeanadal@hotmail.com said ... (8:29 AM) :

Suspenders are a funny thing. I like how they look in man if they really need them (I once saw someone wearing belt and suspenders at the same time...)

This girl doesn't look like she was needing any suspenders to hold her jeans. Besides, I can't understand -for obvious anatomy reasons- how can a woman wear those comfortably enough...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:03 AM) :

I like her ensemble - not too sure about the brown sweater though...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:51 AM) :

to each their own i say...regardless i think she looks great

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:46 AM) :

I knew my opinion of style, using Hepburn and Kelly, would upset a few folks.

Very sorry about that.

But consider this - I was in the bookstore and saw a magazine (I think it was Life) recognizing the fifteen year mark of Audrey Hepburn's death. Beautiful woman, great clothes, eternal style. Picture it if you will.

Now go back, enlarge the photo of this young woman, and take a long, hard look. Can you really see this being praised fifteen years after her death? Eternal style? No, I don't think so.

My comment dating to women of the 1950's was an example. Trying to get at the point that women once cared about beauty and style in a different way. There are still a few around. But fewer and fewer. And those few women are the ones who will make history, probably much longer than fifteen years after death. Try 100 or so.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:58 AM) :

nice jeans

Blogger The Spicers said ... (2:43 PM) :

She and her sister, Charlotte Gainsbourg, both possess that effortless chic and a great ability to mix it up.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:17 PM) :

Lou Doillon is the coolest! And this outfit is simply wonderful.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:00 PM) :

I want that little hatchet necklace!

Blogger ricpic said ... (8:31 PM) :

This is a standard bohemian look worldwide. Forty years ago in the Village I saw this jeans, tee shirt with a sweater or vest, and fisherman's cap look all the time.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:55 PM) :

I like the writing on her hand, it gives her that distinctly human touch. And the ax necklace is great.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:24 AM) :

Wow, she really looks like her mother in this shot! I saw JB perform here in Boston. She was wonderful.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:12 AM) :

hooray for soft, washed-a-million-times, light colored jeans. remember those?

this girl is awesome. she's the best of skinhead style and the best of hippie style AT THE SAME TIME. go ahead, you try that...i dare you. it just goes to show that if a girl is cute enough, and bursting with a quiet sort if confidence, she can wear any damn thing she wants.

i love it.

Blogger Unknown said ... (1:40 AM) :

she really never misses. never.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:45 PM) :

is that just me? think she looks a lot like Cory Kennedy.

Blogger lauren ashley said ... (1:00 AM) :

a feel like i know her just by looking at this.
a gal with style after my very own heart. :)

Blogger Lisa said ... (7:43 PM) :

she looks pretty cool, as if she were trying to channel Patti Smith.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:42 AM) :

Looks like the lead singer of Dexy's Midnight Runners. I mean, c'mon eileen.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:54 AM) :

I LOVE THIS LOOK!! <3

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:03 PM) :

Lou is is not about red carpet fashion here, she's about real life fashion; isn't she wearing a gavroche on this picture, it's all about the street attitude and the fact that anybody can relate to this style. Now you tell me if anybody can relate to Hepburn or Kelly, really far from the streets or trans-class if you ask me. And we have to realize that when everydody can pull off wearing class/pricey clother with the rigth logistics, it's much more difficult to look fashionable on an everyday basis, most of the time, it ends up poorly ( I hear slobification). Lastly, can we really compare an everyday look in 2008 when it's all about the working woman and a red carpet look at an era of "perfect" housewives.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:28 PM) :

I wonder where she got the cardigan. Looking at the buttonholes, it almost looks hand knit. And I love the color.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:32 PM) :

This is just an amazing outfit. I would wear this anyway. This is yet another reason to love the french.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:46 AM) :

To the person who said: "Now go back, enlarge the photo of this young woman, and take a long, hard look. Can you really see this being praised fifteen years after her death? Eternal style?"

Really? You think so?

ricpic said he saw this look in the Village 40 years ago. Well, that must have been me. And the look is so classic, I still wear it. And, also like Lou, sometimes I get dressed up and look more like Audrey.)

Lou has an insoucient grace that turns a mad mix into a fashion statement. I mean really, does anybody look at her and think she got dressed in the dark? No! She chose every element and, on her, it works.

But think about it:

If she wasn't Lou Doillon, she'd be just another cute girl on the streets of Paris (like I was, on McDougall Street, once upon a time, wearing the same hat). And if Sart took a picture of me and my sister, would you remark how much prettier and more talented and more stylish my sister was?

So she is a famous daughter, and a famous sister. Does that mean you can say anything about her? And the point of doing so is what, exactly? Gratuitous and unkind, is what I think.

Blogger hoi polloi said ... (1:32 PM) :

When I first saw this, I have to admit I rolled my eyes, simply because its been done to death by every hipster in a major metropolis and its not 1977 anymore. However, she does pull off the street urchin look quite well. I would like to see more riffing on the Victorian street urchin look though....think Oliver Twist

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:46 PM) :

really, on the street? u meet Lou Doillon randomly at Paris? ahah, i'm not a big fan of that cap, i love the coat and suspenders but that's all... though i have to admit it looks good on her! but i wouldn't wear that style...
Love your pics ;)

Blogger Guy Faux said ... (5:29 AM) :

she has that certain je ne sais quoi...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:18 PM) :

Have always found her to be vulgar and overrated but thanks to you Scott she actually looks sweet on this picture.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:01 PM) :

She could truelly become a great, sports illustrated voted her the best new designer, her clothing is available on leecooper-online and it is great, wife loves it and looks great in the style. Autumn range has just hit the web site, charlotte junper in lava red is uber cool
