Silver & Brown For Men, Manhattan

I love this menswear silver (light grey) & brown combo, remember the Nov. 28th post of the the young lady in silver & brown.

The pattern mix of scarf and vest interior is also very well done.

Nothing wrong with brown and light grey ... but not sure about the short vest here, especially at the bottom.

Blogger The Sartorialist said ... (7:40 AM) :

the vest is perfect!

Blogger Butch said ... (7:44 AM) :

Great color-pattern mix (skin hue also obliges!) and good proportions, too.

Love the colours, shapes and everything! Such a nice and confortable look. It really works on this man, even if it didn't work so well in the 28th Novemeber's lady.

I guess that texture is what makes the main differance: leather, whool, cashmire, etc. Also the fact that he really sticked to silver and brown with not complicating his outfit with other colors such as blue, black and white.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:43 AM) :

Well done, he looks approachable. The brown and grey are sort of monochrome, though. How I long to see a third, bright color here!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:55 AM) :

Enlarging this pic makes all the difference. I normally don't like vests, never mind with a formal suit, but I am suitably impressed with this one!How great is that lining, and then this clever guy did not zip it up to the top, buit opened it to expose a lovely scarf. Yep, dude knows what he's doing and he's doing good.

It's sophisticated coziness of the look that I admire the most...

Blogger Laguna Beach Fogey said ... (9:05 AM) :

Nice shot! I really like the vest and scarf. However, I am not fond of the grey suit (??), which at first glance I assumed was some sort of tailored sweatsuit.

Blogger Alice Olive said ... (9:15 AM) :

Agreed - fantastic colour mix. The light grey sets off the rich brown. (I'd like to see his shoes too!)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:41 AM) :

I find his gaze & facial expression just charming. He looks so friendly and approachable!

I think the gloves really balance the outfit. This is great.

It always thrills me when you post photos of people of color. Maybe one day you can graduate to fat girls!

He looks so great. Men should embrace the vest!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:59 AM) :

I've shown this picture to my husband, who usually wears his vest under his jacket. He's now going to try this. Thanks, Sart.
I certainly enjoy your pictures of fashion industry people, but these ones of the "man on the street" often touch my heart, and they tend to be more inspiring for me.

Looks great -- nothing overdone about this guys clothes but still shows that he cares. a nice mix of color and patern.

that flannel suit looks warm but not warm enough for yesterday in nyc.

Blogger The Spicers said ... (11:55 AM) :

Great color mix, and I love the way the vest looks over the suit: very modern layering.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:21 PM) :

I absolutely love this, because on a quick glance it looks like a nice cozy casual outfit, but when you take a closer look, there is so much more going on. The details are fabulous, the stitching on the beautiful leather gloves, the nice zipper pulls on the vest, the beautiful wools, and the elegant suit. For me, this is one of the most inspirational shots yet.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:23 PM) :

if anybody recognizes that vest,,I'd love to know where to get one just like it

Blogger Neil MacLean said ... (12:24 PM) :

bright color? Look closer at the neon green watch! j/k
Great look..

the scarf is definitely Burberry

but does anybody recognize the vest???? really want one just like it

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:00 PM) :

Love the short gloves!

Blogger shabnom said ... (2:14 PM) :

I love that this outfit could easily be incognito, but that the details really heighten its impact. The matching patterns are especially cool. Is that really a suit he's wearing under the vest? Wow! I love that it all matches perfectly and of course, his smile!

Blogger Le Bouton said ... (2:32 PM) :

charming, and kind looking.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:06 PM) :

Not a fan of chocolate and grey, I think tan works better. Think grey tights and tan boots.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:12 PM) :

EEK! This is my dear friend Eric Archibald, stylist extraordinare! Of course he looks fantastic, he's made some of the industry's biggest stars look marvelous. I can't wait to tell him I've seen him on your site.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:31 PM) :

By definition alone this is not monochrome: there are a lot of colors here. I really like the vest on the outside, and it's interesting to compare the effect of the vest on the outside of the suit vs. a hoodie sweatshirt underneath a suit. This looks more sophisticated for some reason, while the hoodie w/ suit jacket appears more casual.

Blogger Alana in Canada said ... (5:47 PM) :

I'm intrigued by the silver hat. Fantastic choice. And is that his tie peaking through the vest?

He's got a fantastic face. I'm so glad we can enlarge the pics again!

Blogger O!Lightning said ... (6:23 PM) :

lovin it, just lovin it!Unusual color combo that really works, nice detail and shapes. I'd love him to pull up his hat slightly to see more of his beautiful face.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:36 PM) :

this is one of my favorites out of your recent posts! i echo what others have said about how this doesn't look fashion-y, but upon closer inspection, the details are just impeccable - the beautiful leather gloves, the neon green watch peeking out, the delicate grey flannel of his suit, which i also thought at first was sweats - which makes me like it even more! the subtlety of his look made me think, oh, this has GOT to be someone in the industry... and he is. but still, at first glance he looks so casual, real, approachable - this is not something that can only be worn during fashion week among birds of a feather. LOVE!!!

and, being that i wear a ton of tan and grey, as well as warm brown ("luggage"? "cognac"?) and grey, i really appreciate this look.

Blogger HARRY PALMZ said ... (11:41 PM) :

oh, to see his shoes!

the light grey winter suit - a sartorial gentleman's separating touch

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:34 AM) :

Silver+ brown looks fantastic !
Especially on someone with dark skin.
Just goes to show that trends and colurs should be skipped or at least be individually adapted.

Blogger Unknown said ... (3:07 AM) :

The color combination is lovely. I remember it impressed me very much the first time you pointed it out.

But to me this outfit seems a bit too deliberate.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:51 AM) :

couldn't be better, color-and patternwise.
there's a case to be made for short vests, too.
still, those jacket flaps I find a little off-putting.
in Milan we have a few yuppie types that use this style; usually they ride bikes to their jobs in the financial district.
I'm sure this gentleman could skip the jacket and go for a silver double cashmere sweater instead.

whatever; he's looking great and to top it off, he has got this warm, friendly expression. take note, you wearers of sinister expressions in Milan, London, Paris, NYC! try and smile sometime.

you can tell this guy has it all together...by the look of him he always looks this good...did he leave you his number by any chance?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:20 PM) :

i love this. cool comfort.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:29 PM) :

I love the color mix, but it looks like this handsome gentleman was cold and put his too casual gear on over his nice suit, something a lot of men do.

On him it looks charming, but that's just because he looks so cute and huggable.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:56 AM) :

The entire look is just perfect. Brilliant idea to layer a vest OVER his sportscoat. I'm gonna steal that idea from him! Is the vest corduroy? Very cool.

I love the gingham lining and would love ot buy one like it

Blogger The Bluebird Pies Blog said ... (8:22 PM) :

I love to see men dressing well like this when it's not just for business or trying too hard to look cool.

I know him and he always looks fabulous! It is always fun to see what he will come up with.
