Very put together, but a nice, dandyish touch with the positioning of his feet in this pose.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:48 AM) :

Love this man and LOVE the guy behind him...and the purse next to him

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:12 AM) :

I'm not sure what I think about this look.

I like how he paired the green tie (unique shade of green) with the fantastic grey suit (almost as if there is some sort of wonderful texture to it). Also, his shoes and socks (great freelancing!) are fabulous!

However, I'm on the fence about the double breasted cut (never was fan) and the peak lapels on the jacket (makes him look like he's trying too hard to be trendy).

Also, I know that when you post photos, you often focus on a single aspect of the photo. Could you elaborate a little more on exactly what you find so appealing about this man?

Much thanks!

Stunning
A wonderful peak lapel.

Does anyone have an opinion.

Peak lapel is best on slim man, yes no? This look makes me think that on day wear at least this is the case?

Lovely shoes also, english those?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:15 AM) :

I love his green tie...and his feet! He looks like he's about to jump up and dance a soft shoe on the sidewalk.

All the girls with the pigeon toes could learn something from this guy!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:30 AM) :

Haha, loves the pose with the shoes! :)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:35 AM) :

I really like his shoes and the shade of grey his suit is. Those two colours go really well together, I'll have to try that sometime. And of course, a little lime green to spice things up. Without the tie, the look would not be nearly as good.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:39 AM) :

Wow, sassy.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:17 AM) :

I have to say that I am surprised to see so many men so knowleadgeable about fashion posting on this site. My husband and most men in my life will refuse to show any interest in fashion. If anything the men's photos seem to get much more technical and "sartorial" comments than the women's which makes it much more interesting to me. It is all about fit and cut, wheareas with women I feel like we focus more on the presonality and overall result. Interesting, no?

Blogger Blue Floppy Hat said ... (3:32 AM) :

Nice one with the feet..he looks as if he's about to break into a number from Singin' In The Rain or something. Or fly :)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:04 AM) :

bit Tom Wolfeish...the shoes are as wings:-)

Blogger Kits said ... (5:11 AM) :

I loved his pose best of all.

Blogger RoseAG said ... (6:31 AM) :

He's quite sharp looking.
I like the shoes, and he's got his coat lining turned so he coordinates nicely.

The green tie is unique, but I think it's not a color I love, so ...I like the suit.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:19 AM) :

It’s very nice to see classic grey double-breasted pinstripe paired with a Windsor-collared shirt. Does he have his right cuff open? The tie looks like a beautiful shade of ochre or pale olive and the chestnut oxfords are wonderful. None of your subjects look like they’d ruin such a look with shabby shoes.

The chap behind him (pink shirt with contrast collar, cravat) is cutting a dash as well – any chance of featuring him in his own right?

Blogger Kelly said ... (8:49 AM) :

This was a cool experience: my computer is slow at loading pictures, so first the man's head appeared, then slowly his torso...

I thought, o.k., a bit stuffy, and THEN, those shoes and that foot positioning appeared!

What a wonderfully quirky surprise!!

Blogger Misterparticular said ... (8:54 AM) :

Sweet the say the satin lining adds a bit more tan to the fabulous grey pinstripe suit and tan shoe combo (a classic favorite of mine).

A lot going on with that suit though. Peak lapels, cuffs, "off" color, but he pulls it off. If only we could all do it so well.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:09 AM) :

i love the grey suit, light brown shoe combo in general. the cuff size is fantastic.

is that a knit tie or just textured? hard to tell even from the new and improved enlarged photos.

Blogger Susan B said ... (11:51 AM) :

Love the how the green tie and brown shoes work together here. Fantastic!

Sart, your blog has been such an inspiration for me. I'm much more likely to mix textures and throw in a bit of bright color with an otherwise neutral ensemble, and letting go of the "rules" is really helping me find my own style.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:52 AM) :

it's all about the feet!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:39 PM) :

People keep mentioning the peak lapels. It is a double breasted suit, so they are necessarily peak lapels.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:57 PM) :

It looks like he put his tie on without checking it in the mirror afterwards. He looks very nonchalant is the midst of the busy fashion parade; his demeanor puts things into perspective: fashion shouldn't be a chore, it most certainly should not be uncomfortable, and it doesn't have to be flashy.

Blogger Butch said ... (2:14 PM) :

To anon 3:17, well, because conventionalized, classic men's tailoring involves fewer options than does women's dress, which makes their use particularly important. So one gets involved with "minor" differences like pants and jacket length, lapel style, overall jacket fit (molded or less so?) and so on.

Which is what makes it all so fascinating!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:14 PM) :

My first thought was, "Oh, you beautiful doll!"

Followed immediately by "Fred!" (Astaire, my idol; and yes, I'm a woman.)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:01 PM) :

A great look and an even better picture - you have to love the way the feet are pointing up to teh sky and the folks huddled in the background.

The broad, peaked lapels work great on this guy, even though most men look like clowns with this look, because of his slender build.

Better yet, he's renewed the possibility of wearing brown shoes with a suit after a winter of black shoes only.

ALSO - Sart, will you PLEASE bring back the Questionnaires? They were so interseting, and there has not been one in ages.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:00 PM) :

Stellar photo! Definitely one of my favorites. You've really brought modern portraiture to life. I know the main point is fashion, but I wouldn't be surprised to see this one in a gallery someday.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:14 PM) :

Can this man please come to American and teach men about suit dressing? Please? Because if American men wore suits like--not "like this suit" but "in this manner-- this I might find men in suits attractive.

Blogger Solomon Animashaun said ... (3:51 AM) :

Excellent DB!....Love the little personal quirks too!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:37 AM) :

Everyone in this pic is wonderfully sartorial, even the photo hag in the back with the pink ;-)

Great picture! OMG, I'm already thinking "Best of" and it's only February.

The suit, The tie, the Shoes... Perfect...

There is something that seems to happen when three colours are grouped like this, they all seem to harmonize in a way that they wouldn't in pairs.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:21 AM) :

Suit looks bespoke, that slight imperfection you can only get with a hand sew. And those shoes are killer.
Could be edward green but i fancy theyr are italian. He is American right? Looks like buyer or store CEO Feel like i recognise him....

Blogger Stratos Bacalis said ... (8:24 AM) :

Love the lime green tie - I'm a sucker for all thing green and, in particular, lime. His whole styling is great.

Blogger Resplendato said ... (10:37 AM) :

I love the way that suit fits him..and the tie is close enough of a green to make the whole look pop out even more.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:13 PM) :

Of course looks very good. The shoes are just a tad pale with the suit for my taste, but it's personal preference.

Blogger vjperera said ... (2:57 PM) :

Definitely my favorite of February. But apart from his style, his aplomb poise is enviable.
Love how the guy behind our man is wondering why he isn't the subject of the photographer.

Blogger Katrina Martiani said ... (6:56 PM) :

Funny, I didn't even notice anything other than the shoes; as a wannabe cobbler, those look like a VERY fine quality shoe, and that was just from the thumbnail. He's fantastic - i adore his expression, and the foot action.

Blogger in defense of retail therapy said ... (8:10 AM) :

absoultely one of our top top favorites ever on the sartorialist. turned up toes, the perfect width of those lapels.....

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:54 AM) :

One of my very favorites

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:50 PM) :

Nice! I'd like to know where one can find such shirts !! Any idea ?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:59 AM) :

That is Tom Wolfe, isn't it?

Blogger Mr. Rover said ... (10:53 AM) :

anon 1:12 (Daniel), double breasted suits usually go hand in hand with peak lapels...always have (except for maybe a short period in the 80s, but let's not talk about that...)
I like the lapels- wide and bold. A double breasted suit with skinny lapels just looks off kilter to me. The way he does his tie with the wide spread collar is very Prince Charles.
Those shoes are awesome- do they look like they have a spade shape to them? Never underestimate a pair of tan captoes.
I'd be tempted to stick a hanky in his pocket, but it wouldn't be right...perfect.
Tom Wolfe? I thought he only wore white suits...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:32 PM) :

He looks like a men with many secrets and great what he does with his feet!
