This photo reminds me of my days at FIT, draping on dress forms and learning how to make patterns and sewing my muslins. Sweet memories for sure.
The contrast between the model and the designer is so interesting!
We can already see a different perceptual levels in this two persons: the beautiful object of desire and the creative mind behind it.

There's something about ateliers and studios that's so romantic and real. People often think of clothes as material things, but fashion really does ignite a sort of feeling like nothing else.

I really, really love this picture. Sure the composition is nice and the lighting is dramatic, but I love getting a glimpse into someone's daily routine that when caught on film is perfect. No screaching cabs, horrible subway smells- just a quiet scene where someone is doing something significant and in this case, beautiful.

love how the light is connected to the image...there's an intense, and at the same time gentle, focus...love it!
the pleating on this white dress is quite interesting...how it makes vertical panels down the front of the frock but suddenly transforms the sleeves into pleats of horizontal and diagonal lines...the lovely, orchid-like sleeves. the overall effect brings to mind a beautiful, white sail

OK, so what makes this such a compelling photograph? First, Sart really caught the dance of a moment -- one that was unposed and unselfconscious -- a bit hard to find in the fashion world.
Second, there is a wonderful combination of balance and tension in every aspect of this -- the light, the figures, their clothing, the room -- it really captures the concentration and work that lie behind the creative process.
The model has just stepped toward the designer, the designer leans slightly toward the model; both bear their weight on the left foot; both heads bent at the same angle, looking down at the same place. The two figures are about the same height, but the contrasts are interesting. One is blonde, frail and ethereal looking in the white dress and pointed boots and with her arms down she looks passive. The designer is brunette, the black tights and the belted cropped boots make her look firmly grounded and there is tension and focus in her posture. The model is by that soft northern light pouring in the window; the designer further into the shadows of the practical, plain studio, all of which heighten the contrasts.
A good photo requires that you see the moment, recognize it, and capture it, all in an instant. Sart nailed this one.

Ah yes, Scott, this is a lovely photo... and it does romanticize a rather serene, creative mood in an "atelier" setting....however to convey the true reality of this business you must visit a "workroom" 24 hours before a show when everyone is running in high gear with adrenaline pumping and not a moment to spare as the deadline starts to close in...That is what separates the true masters from all others. That is the reality! Do you think you could capture some of those scenes???
