At Calvin Klein

Oooh the top lady - love the colours, love the belt, love the bell sleeves, love the fringe. Love it.

Blogger Broady said ... (9:00 AM) :

The long dark haired lady looks runway ready. Understated and very Calvin Klein-y.

The second lady, it's hard to see the lines of her clothing... maybe the background is too dark and blends with her dress? I do like the hair though.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:21 AM) :

LOVE the simple elegance of that first one!

Blogger Tiffany said ... (9:40 AM) :

I love the cut of the shirt in the first picture.
I almost picked up an old Bill Blass dress, same color, wool but passed because I was unsure of the cut.

It was only $3 though.
I should go back.

Blogger Alice Olive said ... (10:06 AM) :

Love the sleeves of the grey blouse in first photo. Beautiful.

The delicateness of the sleeves makes me refer to this as a blouse. Otherwise I'd just call it a shirt. This detail transforms it for me.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:12 AM) :

Argh! Where did she get that beautiful gray blouse with the flowing sleeves? Quelle belle!

Marline

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:16 AM) :

Beautiful!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:20 AM) :

I love the ensemble in the top photo--the belt and the simple neckline and cuffless wrist seem to balance each other out. Minimalism and romance, formality and comfort, very nice, and nice calm mood in the photo. So many of your subjects look totally relaxed.

Blogger comtedamour said ... (10:30 AM) :

somethings off on the top pic, is it her posture or the fit?

Blogger we could grow up 2gether said ... (10:39 AM) :

dear sartorialist,

are u just using natural light? the 5d is working some true magic!

XOXO

Blogger Unknown said ... (10:42 AM) :

your rainy photos on style.com look amazing.

Blogger MARIA H said ... (11:24 AM) :

loooove their hair! The mane makes a statement in those two women: flowing and very personal. The shirt of the first woman is interesting. But the hair is whats says here who they are.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:29 AM) :

Love the belt on the top photo!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:51 AM) :

?? The first one looks nice (although a shorter haircut would look better) but why did you photograph the 2nd one? i don't see any sartorialistic comment...

Blogger Claire said ... (12:37 PM) :

I love the belt. I've already gotten so sick of that huge patent leather Fendi buckle, so it's nice to see something that's pronounced but not as vulgar.

The puffy sleeves look good on her. I wish they didn't look so silly on me. Oh well.

Blogger Bernadette Pasley said ... (1:03 PM) :

I can't really see what the girl in the second pic is wearing because it' black. The top in the first one is really nice, though.

Blogger Lady-A said ... (1:39 PM) :

Sarts,

Any chance you'll be taking pictures in Williamsburg anytime soon? I'd love to see what the Willy B kids are wearing this fall.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:56 PM) :

Great shots...not so great outfits

Blogger Kelli said ... (2:16 PM) :

These are lovely pictures. In the top photo the color & texture of the top, the neckline & sleeves, the belt color & buckle, the skirt and her hair are all so simple and pull together nicely.

The second women..who is she? She looks very familiar or maybe it is because she looks approachable and comfortable with herself.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:58 PM) :

i acutally absolutely adore the second lady. she has an air of sophistication, elegance, and extreme intelligence that is characterized but not overpowered by her ensemble.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:12 PM) :

I love the first outfit...just wish I could pull it off.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:17 PM) :

There's a discount chain store selling the bell-sleeved blouse in a delicate dove gray and a sultry steely blue for less than $30. I passed on it yesterday because I couldn't imagine it on. I'll be going back tomorrow.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:25 PM) :

slightly (just slightly) underwhelmed by these two, but oh my-my-my-my-my that series of portraits on style! lauren hutton, wow! ditto carine roitfield yesterday. and the umbrella shots. i don't know how you do it, but please don't stop. this stuff is better than, um, chocolate?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:56 PM) :

Kelli,

I thought the second woman might be the woman in the yellow dress/coat and black tights from the other day, but I may be totally wrong.

I think the first outfit is lovely. I'm sure the second is lovely, too, but it's hard to see in the photo. I would like to get them both haircuts, though!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:57 PM) :

And please, I beg you, don't do a Williamsburg photoshoot. I'm sure there are some really original people still there, but the vast majority are not.

Blogger Susan said ... (4:29 PM) :

isnt the 2nd lady one of the people you photographed when you were in Milan? Does she work for Calvin Klein or something?

I LOVE calvin klein's simplicity, btw. LOOOOOOOOOOOVE it.

Blogger Susan said ... (4:42 PM) :

I've got it. I looked back JUNE 29th! Calvin Klein! Wow, I need to get a life but I do have a great memory. Who is she?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:53 PM) :

I disagree about the need for hair cuts. What is up with wanting to see the same hair style in different women?. This women work in the fashion industry and they have fantastic, sexy hair!(Cues that they don't need a hair cut). Who's hair would be appropriate?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:11 PM) :

calvin klein is for flunkies.
-jen

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:45 PM) :

The gray shirt is very nice but shows pull lines that make it looks like it doesn't exactly fit and this detracts from it's appearance.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:30 AM) :

As a young twenty-something man, I am fascinated with your pictures of ladies "of a certain age." I'm glad you've been taking more pictures.

As someone who grew up in a California suburb (and even now as I live and work in L.A.), I am surrounded with "trendy" and youth-oriented women's styles. The post-modern aimlesness and disposability of it all was burning me out. Your site is one of the few places where I can see women with personal style that are proud of their wealth of experience. It's inspiring! KEEP IT UP!

Blogger le fashion said ... (4:55 PM) :

great looks! i love the grey blouse!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:36 AM) :

in the midst of all these kitsch, it's nice to see uncluttered ensembles every now and then

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:05 AM) :

I think both are attractive women, but their hair is not so fantastic. The first one has thin hair and the second needs some layering to accentuate the curl. No one said anything about giving them the same haircut.

(This is addressed to the person who is defending their hair.)

Blogger The Sartorialist said ... (6:43 PM) :

regarding hair
lets not forget it had been raining for two days which can effect one's hair - with that said, I think their hair looks pretty good,

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:16 PM) :

That first woman is amazing. Love that sleeve. I tried the Marc version on but it just didn't fit at all. Someone wrote that they saw that sleeve in a discount store: which one?
The belt is great,too.
Sartorialist, please don't forget to keep shooting 'regular' stylish people, too. The show and fashion people are fine, but what I love most about your site is your eye on the everyday folk who stand out on the street. They are what distinguish you from just being a(nother) mag.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:03 AM) :

the grey blouse is marni.
